Over Christmas hols?

Myself and Muffinino are being nosey. At our yard they are removing additional livery services over the hols, so we wondered what is happening on your yards.

I do my two myself but YO/ other owners will put in hays and feeds on Christmas night if people leave them ready. Thee are a few liveries away on hols so full livery will still be available to them anyway.

Everything stays the same on my yard (Im on full livery) with exception to the fact that the horses are in by midday so the grooms can go home for the afternoon (bless them). The YO and family then do afternoon, evening and night stables for the liveries.

I think half the liveries on our yard go away over the christmas period so it would be a mess if they did withdraw services! Our YO and family even do bacon sandwiches and have glasses of champagne out for the liveries that do bother to go up

Do everything myself so me and my friend are taking in it turns to do the morning and evening duties so we only have to go down once a day.

I do my own horse and then help/ finish off anyone else's as I live the nearest and to be honest it gets me out the house for a bit Christmas day. Always go for a hack Christmas morning around the town centre - no one around it is always amusing when the horses see themselves in the shop windows. I have had this tradition for the last 15 years

We had a letter from YO on Saturday stating that all additional livery services will not be available on certain dates, followed by a long list of dates, mostly Christmas week&New Years and a few random dates. Problem is, of course, that some people may need turning out/bringing in, feeding etc on these days, as they might have had things planned for these days for a while, but have only just been informed. I have to work Thurs&Fri Christmas week so it's a bit of a pain. YO is very funny about other people doing your horse for you but if you cannot get out of what's planned&she won't do it what are we to do? Letter is a bit unclear as to whether any livery will be available (normally part livery get 1 feed/turnout/rug change a day, and are DIY on weekends) and as Christmas is a Monday we need to know if it's completely DIY or not. In which case it should be cheaper (which it's not) Obv I need to talk to YO but she's usually gone by the time I get up the yard (4.30-5) and haven't had a chance yet! Am just curious as to how it works on other yards.

We had assisted DIY on my previous yard - all assistance was withdrawn on certain dates over Christmas and the New year.

Like Muffinino they didn't like other people doing each others horses - however Christmas was an exception to the rules and it was a free for all, with everyone helping each other out.

I expect the same will apply at your yard MF, can't imagine YO would expect people to cope otherwise.

I've always done my own.

At my yard we will be offering business as usual over the Christmas period. TBH I'm not that fussed about Christmas, nether is my head girl, so we can accomodate for all our liveries who want to spend time with their families.

When we used to have liveries, they did their own in the mornings, and we did them at night, but on xmas day we would just agree to do them all, easier on everbody as we didnt want liveries into the yards on xmas day.

Mine is business as usual - although I generally get up MUCH earlier than normal so that I can muck out and feed all the horses before going back indoors and blobbing out for the opening of presents.

I'm on DIY but it's my last day at college tomorrow before the holiday, and I've just got about 20 requests of 'can you do my horse(s) on such a night?'!
And on Xmas day I expect everyone will help everyone else out, eg. I find it easy to go up in the morning but one livery lives far away so I might be able to help her out, etc.
But I have no idea what I'm expected to work over Xmas (I'm a full livery groom)! As much as I can probably!
