I think that it is just the way life is. It can happen. On the other hand, may it be your question was posted at a time when a lot of other posts were very active? Or you phrased it in a way that was difficult to understend/reply?
Sometimes the way a question is written, or the title the tread is given make it less likely that people will look at it or be able to answer it. Posts that have headings like 'help needed' etc without any indication about the content often don't get answers as people don't open them. Also, threads where people are looking for livery yards/farriers etc without putting the location in the post heading really limit the useful answers they might get.
Such a fast moving forum means threads often slip quickly off the first page, then disappear!
I think since the big change, less active posts get lost amongst well the rest of the less active posts, shame really, one of the things I miss about the old forum, I think you can change it so you can only view recent posts but unless everyone done this, it's not going to work as a whole.
Either that, what others have said or people just like commenting on a jolly good debate...popcorn and all that business.
