I want to show my horse but i am stuggling to find the best class, he is 14.2 full up and not heavy enough for a cob class but im concerned he isnt light enough for small hunter or show hunter pony... he is of unknown breeding but moves straight and boy can he change gear for a gallop!! will jump just about anything but not in the prettiest of fashions.... any ideas??http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/album.php?albumid=2205&pictureid=11777

he isnt a horse he is a pony, so small hunter classes would not apply (unless you are talking at local level.).

for the classes you are likely to do you will need a annual/life height cert.

he does look a nice sort that would do well in workers classes.

He is very smart - looks like a great Working Hunter Pony, especially as he can gallop and jump. Best of luck with him!

Many thanks to you all, i think i am going to try some show hunter (pony) classes if i can find any, it will give him the groundwork whilst we practice our jumping, like i said he will jump almost anything but its not always a pretty sight - sometimes rushed and inverted into the fence, hes only been backed about 18months tho he is 8yrs he was previously a driving pony so thanks to you all for your comments. Ive always thought he looked like a working hunter, i just wasnt sure if there was something we could do in the meantime until our style improves (him and me both!!)

I meant small hunter, local level, I know he's really a pony but he is a full 14.2 , I can't believe there isn't a class for working hunter types that don't jump... :s

The majority of riding clubs seem to do a riding horse class (small or large) where you have to do a show and one jump, partly judged on manners I believe

You could do working hunter pony classes with him. The other class where he would be best suited is probably show hunter pony. As others have pointed out, he isn't as refined as the show hunter ponies at county level, but at local level, if he has good manners, he stands a good shot :)

Riding club/pony club pony is another potential class.

At local level if you see 'Ridden pony' you can do that class as well. Don't confuse this with 'riding pony', however. That's a different class.

I can't help but notice, however, that you look like you might be over 16. This could be your major stumbling block. Plaited ponies in the show ring can only be ridden by children, and you may find many local shows have age restrictions on pony classes preventing you from entering.

If this is the case, it would be worth procurring a measuring stick and seeing if you can get him to measure 14.2 and a half hands. This would then open up small hunter, working hunter horse and Intermediate Show Hunter (if you are under 25) as alternative classes.

At local level you should try a small hunter class, all sorts go in these classes so you would have a good chance as he's lovely!

At local level you should try some novice working hunter classes, most judges prefer for you to go clear and not have the prettiest of rounds than for you to look perfect yet knock fences down! I definitely think its worth a go!

He is gorgeous by the way! :)
