Hello i have an 18(ish) yr old barrel mare she is just a hard keeper and we were giving her veg. oil, and it seemed to help a little. We are needing to gain weight and to help with joints, she is on legacy pellets, which it seemed to have worked very well for her joints and now we are having a very hard time to get weight and muscling on her. she is still doing barrels. (not this season she lost to much weight but she is also a trail horse).

so what would be the best type of oil to give her? and it needs to be a type of oil that isnt going to cost us an arm n leg.

thank you for any type of advice.

Micronised linseed is fabulous stuff for safe weight gain, feet, coat etc. I use it on my golden oldies with great results.

With the greatest of respect perhaps she is telling you she is nearing the end of her working career.

we are getting her hoofs done and taking her to a chiropracter soon she is a lil hot head undersaddle you wouldnt know that she was that old if you see her move lol, we got her weight up alot from before. thanks to alfa pellets, (very small amount because we have no grass), shes on a special home made mix of grain, if she isnt acting any better after the chiropracter than we probley will retire her.
