What is the difference between a stock and a tie?

I dont know the rules of every showing class but its usual for showing to wear a shirt and tie for some classes e.g. hunter classes and a stock for others. For dressage it is most common to wear a stock, although you do see some people in a tie! When wearing a stock you should wear a white one with a black or navy jacket and a coloured stock with a hacking jacket.

At local unaffiliated shows you could wear either a stock or a tie for anything
