As the title really, probably a silly question but just wondered people's views really. Is an unregistered pony worth less/doesn't have such good lines ?

I have been offered a section b, but she is unregistered and I'm just keen to know!

I'm looking for something to have a "play" with for 9-12 months and bring on a bit, maybe take out to a few local shows etc. "If" I was then looking to sell later on, Im assuming even if she was the most stunning pony, if she is unregistered this would affect her value/market as a show pony for example ?

It just means you won't be able to show in affiliated show classes and any offspring will have to be registered partbred, if you have no interest in showing or breeding then I would consider her, but expect to a little less than if she were fully registered, Saying that there are alot of unregistered sec B's doing very well as SHP's!!

It would if you wanted to show in breed classes - their is a ceiling for unregistered horses and longer term there are implications for breeding too.

Having said that, you can have a lot of fun with this pony, if it can jump or produce some nice flatwork and you want to concentrate in this area then breeding is immaterial in my opinion. There will always be a good market for an attractive and competent pony for PC riders for example.

There is lot to be said for directing your focus on what the pony can actually do, instead of the genes it may be carrying.

Good point. I won't have any intention of breeding her whilst she is with me. I simply miss having a pony to play with after breaking and selling my section a 18mths ago. Have toyed with the idea of looking for another for a few months now, but nothing right has come up. And I've always been "put off" unregistered but have never been sure why I felt that way!!!! I suppose with any pony, if it's safe as houses and can do a bit of everything it can be near perfect for a child!

The main difference is that a registered M&M pony has parents that are on the breed society stud books and has the correct colouring and size for the breed specification.

A good registered pony will sell for more than an unregistered pony of the same quality. Being registered opens up the sales market as well as adults can compete in affilated M&M on ponies where SP are restricted to children only.

However a good unregistered pony will be worth more than a bad registered one. Good temperments, manners, jumping ability etc can push up the price of unregistered ponies.

Genie is unregistered, and does very well at local level, regularly being placed above welsh D's that have placed at county. It just means that we cannot do county showing, and if I were to breed from her I wouldn't put her to a Welsh D cos the foal would have to be registered part-bred.

I have a registered NF and the main advantage is that I can do afilliated showing with him which I could not do if he was not registered. I could also take him to the breed show as well.

She could only show unaffiliated if not registered or with BSPS as a plaited show hunter pony or working hunter pony (assuming she's not as light as a show pony). Will def affect her value though from a showing perspective but if she was a saint her pony club value wouldn't be affected too much.
