What is the difference in training - conventional farrier & barefoot trimmer?

Odd question but I don't know anything about barefoot trimmers and their training. Is it the same as any other farrier? Do they have to study the same things and what qualifications do they come out with?

I am aware anyone can trim their own horses hooves but surely barefoot trimmers must have some in depth knowledge and training?

There are many threads on this subject if you utilise the search function.

Basically farriers do 7 year's training.

Trimmers - depending on with whom they train do around 2 year's training.

You can declare yourself a trimmer with no training - so it's best to use a trimmer with a good reputation, if not affiliated with a group (such as UKNHCP, AANHCP, DEAP, EP, ESA).

You will get a lot of people who will state that farriers are the only ones to use and they wouldn't allow 'someone with a weekend's training near my horses' - but there is good and bad in both.

I use UKNHCP trimmers after a farrier's apprentice (under supervision) left my healthy hooved horse stood in puddles of blood:(
