what is the longest you would travel a foal

So a 350 mile journey for a 10 month old would not be unreasonable in one go. Would it be different in a trailer to a horse lorry About 6 hours or so including stops
 
If it helps we did a 350 mile drive with trailer (adult horse) and it took about 10 hours with 15ish minute stops every 2 hours or so
 
Over here a lot of horses are travelled loose (all of my horses do), and foals are almost always travelled loose as we have different types of trailers here compared to in UK. Horse lorries are incredibly uncommon (I've only ever seen one in 10 years of living here) but the trailers are huge and usually have air-ride suspension so it's comfy for the horses and they're very often box stalls so the horses can move around as if in a stable.

Would your foal be travelling loose or tied? I think at 10 months it should be fine. A foal I foaled out on my farm (not owned by me) travelled nearly 3,000 miles over the space of 4 days with layovers each night and he arrived in perfect shape. I've shipped a lot of foals from my farm thousands of miles and they've all be fine. 6 hours/350 miles would be acceptable to me travelling the way we travel them over here. Tied up and not being able to move for that length of time, hmm I don't know, I'd have to weigh up whether the foal could stand that length of time not being able to move.

definately agree with travelling loose rather than tied up for a foally
 
I travelled a 6 month old from West Wales to Lincolnshire in one go with a stop for diesel on the way. He was completely fine and got off at the other end as fresh as a daisy.
 
I'd go loose too, it is far safer, as for distance, well I have done quarantine for weanlings going to Japan and South Africa, most go via Amsterdam airport and that is fair distance to travel by road before being loaded on a plane! They cope better than you might think, put some bedding on the floor and hay.
 
I have travelled one 350 miles / about 7.5 hrs

We stopped a few times on the way but he travelled exceptionally well although was tired at the end of it all
 
north wales to wiltshire 230 miles, took about 5 hours and the foal was 5 months old and travelled loose in a well bedded down trailer with all partitions and bars removed so nothing to tangle himself in. he spent most of the journey peering out the front window and licking it! when we got home he was so comfy he didn't want to come out! just don't do like hubby did and decide you need petrol just after you pass the last service station for 30 miles :o
 
I bought my Friesian filly as a 4 month old in Holland; went up to get her at 6 months old and breeder just took her away from her mother as we arrived! Popped her in the trailer and drove 5 hours back to Belgium. She shouted the whole way.

Not ideal, but didn't kill her.
