What is the point of overstamping a passport?

My two-year old filly is passported as a part-bred with the BCPS. She is connie x WB. When passporting her originally, I toyed with the idea of using the Sports Pony Society instead but in the end went for BCPS. I have heard of people overstamping passports with another society. Why do they do this? Would there be any advantage in overstamping her passport with the SPSS?

Only if you wanted to grade her with the SPSS. I looked into doing this for one of my mares- I decided it was very expensive for no gain!

One of mine is registered with Saddlebred Association but I had his passport overstamped by the AHS as I wanted to compete him in pb Arab classes so he needed to be registered with them.

Thanks for replying. I was thinking of grading her with SPSS at the local Futurity as a three year old. They combine the two events at the same venue. But I guess I could just grade her at Futurity if overstamping with SPSS just adds to the expense but without any extra benefit?

Futurity isn’t a grading, it’s an evaluation.

Some people (either breeders or potential buyers) can be sniffy about some studbooks (particularly in the dressage world!) and therefore may overstamp/grade with a different studbook to enable offspring to get full papers with the preferred studbook.

But in general it’s an expensive exercise for no real benefit.
