We don't know what stables, what horse, who it was, how severe his injuries are... i just don't understand why this makes the top news stories on Horse and Hound?! People get kicked by horses all over the country, every day, and they don't report every one of them!

Thoughts??

I'll hazard a guess that it was used to fill one of those small, annoying-sized holes one occasionally has to plug in a newspaper/magazine and it managed to find its' way into the stories considered for web content, somehow.

Was thinking the same thing glad you brought it up - in fact there are loads of completely boring and irrelevant stories every week - like horse collapses with rider in New Zealand or wherever it was. There are definitely some people though who seem to relish digging up the most tragic horse related stories and putting them on latest news. So perhaps its for them?

A couple of months back, a friend of mine's mother was driving along a byway with a friend when a teen on a quad bike spooked her horses. They bolted, galloped across the main road and attempted to jump a railing and a dry stone wall on the other side of said road. Over the wall was a sheer drop into a family garden, where moments earlier, children had been playing.

One horse came out of the harness, fell into the garden, broke its neck and died in moments. The other was left hanging by the harness from a tree, a fair way from the ground. That horse had compound fractures and was later destroyed. My friend's mother was catapulted into the garden below, breaking numerous bones and having to be revived by the owner of the house below (who fortunately was trained in first aid - was a fireman or something similar). Her friend clambered back into the trap, which was hanging precariously over the wall

I was surprised this didn't make H&H news as it was one of the most horrendous things I've ever heard, almost unbelievable. I'm not interested in the fact that someone, somewhere, got kicked - who, where, how - and?

My horse's ad appeared in H&H today. I got a call this evening from H&H saying they'd seen my ad on Horse hunter and would I like to advertise in H&H? Same number, same picture, same description...

Think they need a new research team. I'm bored and available, H&H...

Munckin - what an horrific story! I do hope your friend's Mother is recovering well. Don't suppose charges could be brought aginst the quad bike rider?

You are right though, given H&H's new found love of tragic/gory horse related accidents you would think they would have printed the story.

I agree that a story about a random man being kicked by a horse, although nasty for him, doesn't really merit inclusion in a national magazine. Wouldn't even think his local paper would bother printing it.

If H&H reported every story about someone being kicked or injured by their horse there wouldn't be room for anything else in the magazine!

Does anyone else feel that H&H seems to like having fairly sensational 'headlines' on the front cover but when you start reading the magazine sometimes the article itself is so small you miss it?

Yes! I sometimes wonder if I've gone mad when I'm reading the mag and looking for the headline story.

No charges - the guy was in a field adjacent to the byway, not actually on it, and said he hadn't realised they were there until it was too late. Not really his fault.

She's recovering well

This is a horrendous story - and I do so hope the people involved are making a good recovery.
I think H&H also need an experienced Proof Reader.
The spelling mistakes these days, especially in the Classifieds, are appalling - and sometimes very laughable indeed - but most definitely not up to the standards to which H&H should be aspiring.
I am available too H&H - as a Proof Reader.

At least :P

No need to work in London either!
H&H could pass the Classifieds, etc: down the line to us, we Proof Read, amend and send back - job done.
Seriously though, how are the people who were involved in this horrendous accident?
Physically, they will mend but what they dream about could be quite scary.
Please pass on my very best wishes.
For x-Hollie-x - you see, I am NOT "a vile person".

Just the two of them. Both very shaken. But Joyce (who was almost killed) had a stroke a couple of years previously and was not 100% "with it" - and I mean this as nicely as possible, but I think that it might have been a good thing in this situation as she seems to have handled it quite well, considering...
