What is this bit?

Someone suggested a double ring snaffle? (its the snaffle with another ring lol)

What are the benefits of this bit and why would someone use one?

Bits aren't my strong point

so many new bits came out when I was away from horses

But I did recognise that 1 as a driving bit from my NVQ days

The days when I knew every bit there was.
No neu schuele or mylers etc then

It looks like a wilson snaffle but I have never seen it used like that. We use them for driving when breaking youngsters sometimes. They normally have a straight bar.

The first link to hunting pics is a scourier bit, were the inside link goes through the mouth piece.

A wilson snaffle the side ring is just looped round the mouth piece.

If that makes sense. The ring is independant to the bit.

Don't know if I write the following in correct english, but I think it looks like both rings goes through the end of the bit on Merrily_On_Heidi's pictures, and in Kao's link to the Wilson snaffle one ring goes through the end of the bit but the other ring doesn't.

Hiya, yes its a scourier. Used to be quite popular with showjumpers. Its pretty strong nad meant to help a lot with turning

Yup thats a scourier, its used in driving more often than ridden work - although I ride in a reverse pelham and a butterfly pelham which are both driving bits. The dark bay has an english Tom Thumb (v different to a US tom thumb!) in. I like these for lifting the head and preventing the horse from leaning and tanking! Not good for those prone to rearing or stargazing tho!

Didn't read the thread, computer being troublesome, so someone has probably already said that it is a Scorrier.

The Wilson has four rings, the inner two are floating, not fixed. Reins/cheeks can be attached to either pair depending on the strength and action you require.
