It looks a bit like a market harborough except the extra bits that clip onto the reins look like red string/elastic and they run though pulleys attached to the bit (like the pessoa clips) any idea what this is?

Like this? A de Gogue?

It is used for riding, it does not go up to the browband. Doesn't the abbot davies have a rope as well? It is exactly the same as a market harborough except instead of the extra bits that clip to the reins going through the bit rings with the reins they run through pulleys which are attached to the bit.

Nope Abbot davis has pully clips on the bit and then clips back to the reins-just like a market harborough. The bits the come up from the girth are usually elastic/rubber.
Yes for riding! There is a book that goes with it that shows al the ways it can be used, not sure on the other positions other than the riding way

In the ridden position it doesnt really, other than it moves easier thru the bit as its on pulleys.
However it can be used in otherways for lunging etc so has more versibilty from that point.
Also as its elasticated its not as harsh as a market harborough.

I have one and it is very useful for making the horse work long and low. I used to use it after having her back sorted and I needed to have her work long and low to strengthen her back up. It works wonders for this. But if I put a gadget on my mare, she just works long and low whereas she is at the point now where she works up, so it isnt much use putting on anything. But the AD is the only gadget I use, unless lunging with the Pessoa, and only then to strengthen as I said earlier.

yes, tnat looks just like it.

According to the abbot davies website the rein is attached to the horses tail. You can see it in the piccies.

there are three positions for the AD, one is to the tail but is not essential to do, one is lunging position, and riding
