What is this shoe called?

Hi there is a very sad article on the front page of H&H title "25-year-old showjumping groom dies" my sympathy for all concerned.
But could any one tell me what the name and use is of the shoe on the horse jumping in the picture?

Looking at the picture carefully, I think it shows both front feet shod normally, but at first glance it looks like one hoof with metalwork part way up. Is that what you mean, or am I being thick?

Yes it looks like a brace, I should have put this in hoof care, what a dummy

It's just the camera angle. They are normal shoes, with studs.
