It's an Argentinian head collar. Used to have them on the polo ponies when they came over... Just what they traditionally used

Looks like the sort of halter used on Criollo type horses - assume it's a traditional south american thing?

If you import polo ponies from Argentina, 99 times out of 100 they will come with these on!!

It is virutually unbreakable and made from rawhide usually. :) you can buy them in the UK but they arent overly cheap (around 50 pounds I think).

these argie headcollars are very strong and great for exercising polo ponies, no need for bridles if they are lead, i used to ride and lead 2 on the roads years ago in these, with no problems at all.
