what is this?

just saw a picture in the recent horse and hound magazine, and it was an eventer, which horse had some sort cellotape on his nose?! what is this, and is it something alot of people do haha?! sorry if i sound completely stupid, just interested!

Those would be the strips that are supposed to help keep a horse's airway open.

I think its to open their airways to help with breathing. I'm no expert though on eventing!

as above.... increases airways thus increasing oxygen intake, more oxygen circulating for muscles / breathing blah blah blah..... very technical explaination there by myself lol!!

.........or even IF it works. There is no real proven research on it (as with so many fads and fashions in horse related "stuff").

try it yourself !

press the tip of your nose up and you will feel the greater air intake.

as a very basic general rule:
>VO2 max = >cardio/muscular endurance so need as much oxygen into the horse as possible.

They are similar to the anti snoring plasters for people, my boy had them on when he was eventing (not with me) and he's very very sensitive about people touching the end of his nose, I'd suggest very painful to pull of as that area is still quite hairy for him!
