Ok, so there are always posts on here saying 'I have new horse, what should I call it?' But just like childrens names, I think that we all have an idea of what we would love to use as a show name, for a mare or gelding.

Mine are:

Geldings:
Mr Tumnus
Credit Crunch

Mares:
Ruby Tuesday
Honeybee

I always wanted a grey so I could call him/her China White

My friend has a mare called ruby and although she already has a registered show name, she always ends up being called Ruby Tuesday - because she was bought on a Tuesday!!

I always wanted to call one "Fizz Wizzard" - still might cal Harry that as he zips around so quickly. Or just dirty harry becaus he is minging

and if i get another, i want a gelding... and call it fred (so i have a wilma and a fred) and call him mr flintstone

I named my gelding "Unknown Legend" partly after the song as its my favourite song and partly because thats exactly what he is!
My mare i named "Calamity Jane" which suits her so so so much its untrue!Shes a gorgeous tart who leaves a trail of destruction wherever she goes!!!

My welshy is Tymor Figo although when we go jumping at local I sometimes call him, 'Tequila Sunrise'. My first pony was 'Mane Attraction' and i also had 'Top Notch'

My mare Maddy was 'A Touch of Madness' which is probably the biggest understatement ever, she's still absolutely bonkers! Flash (ironically named) has a crappy show name (Dream Machine), but I can't be bothered to pay to change it! I think 'In Your Dreams' would be more appropriate

My mare Suni's show name is Tequila Sunrise, I always wanted a horse called that.
I also nearly brought a horse called to Ruby Tuesday once, its a really cute name!
For a spotted mare I love the name Spot The Lady (Jnr SJ pony.)

My mare (see avatar pic) was called Kylie in the stable & I used part of a Kylie lyric as her show name. She was called 'Impossible Princes' & it suited her down to the ground!

I think show names are great when they suit the horse/have a meaning. Chilli (below) is 'Chilli Boy' 'cos that's his passported name & what he raced as. It's a bit boring & has no meaning but that's his name & I feel it would be bad luck to try & change it.

I have a liking for very simple, yet noble and memorable names. Ellie was 'Chicka' when we bought her, but I hated it, and Ellie just seemed to suit her. 'Miss Ellie' (her registered name) just seemed to give her an identity....plus I sometimes use it around the yard anyway!

My previous boy was called Just Mickey - again, very simple, and when I was given the chance to name my instructor's colt, I spent a week reading the dictionary and eventually came up with 'Volare'

If/when I ever get to name another horse, I would love to call it Jester's Tear.....although I doubt if anyone knows the song where that inspiration comes from!
