I was just wondering what jobs you do to fund your passion for horses, whether you enjoy them and what you would be doing if you had a choice? Having been on here a little while I am starting to get to know a few of you and some of you have great jobs, some not so great and some are ... well, a bit saucy, well very, very to be honest.

Just for the record, I have just got a new job as a Radiographic Assistant at our local hospital, working in the CT/MRI scanning department, due to start July. Its a complete career change for me and hopefully will be very rewarding. Up till now, I have had jobs to fit in with the kids, animals, etd, mainly secretarial, admin, call centre but hated every second.

So whatever you do, be it penpush or poledance, let us know.

I work as an assistant manager for a big student accommodation building for the University of Leicester. i used to work in nursing homes as a care assistant, and i miss that so much. i do enjoy my current job but it can get a bit boring, its customer service and sometimes i have to fake smiles when im in a bad mood!! Always wanted to be a paramedic but cant afford the C1 and D1 license.

Ideally I'd like to work with horses - breaking, retraining ex racehorses, or working with behavioural issues. Not much money in it though

I am a farrier, my wife works with children who are learning disabled and have challenging behavior.

Neither of us has horses ATM

we both want to own again though

I work from home for an internet based data marketing company. It is rather boring. But on the plus side its extremely flexible and laid back which means plenty of time for playing with ponies

I'm a physiotherapist. Not yet decided if I enjoy it. Have applied for vet school twice since qualifying with no luck

so not sure what I plan to do now lol

I spend other peoples money for them

, well, companies and public sector money. I write the small print and negotiate it, along with other stuffs. Also have a web hosting business, and about to launch a horsey website.

New job sounds fun! Will need update when you start

If I had the choice I would win the lottery, or find a rich a man

I would still work with horses, but not have the worry of having to make x amount every month

Was also working with children with autism and challenging behaviour as a challenging behaviour practitioner- good job but only maternity cover. (Psychology graduate) Working as speech and lang therapy assistant as part of aresearch project- v boring! only till december though. Always try and get jobs where have weekends off to compete.

Vicki Crystal, I used to be a hostie too. Did long haul which was brill but couldn't handle the jet lag. I'm now a training manger at a global manufacturing company. Is great at times but stressful and keeps me away from my beloved hossy during the week sometimes

Did u enjoy it?
Im thinking i might want to have another job but cant think what i would like to do...
I will probably still be saying this next year too!

I work in contract management (yawn) to fund my four horse addiction

If I had my time again I'd have worked my backside off and gone to Uni to be a vet. But at 28 I think going back to do A Levels and then Uni I'd be paying off my student loan almost in to retirement

I would love to work in animal welfare or go back to working with horses but the money isnt enough so I have to suck it up in an office. Anything outdoors would suit me really.......

Also toyed with the idea of being a paramedic but I cant afford to have no money while I train.

Would like to meet a rich man with land, a farrier or a vet. Failing that just a rich man so I could play with the ponios all day and eat grapes in the evening

I volunteer for cats protection and that keeps my hand in on the animal welfare side, so all is not lost and I do have four very beautiful horses, well three beautiful horses and a cowbag pony

I own a company importing equestrian goods to Norway from around the world, I am am internet based and also own a retail shop.

Its great fun, can work around the kids hours, ride when I want and spend plenty of time with my horses as my office suite and storage was built on the farm.

The only trouble is I make things disappear far too easily out of stock for trial purposes, I have to test out the products lol! The other good thing is I never run out of fly spray and if something breaks I have 24/7 access to new

.

It is going well and hubby will be giving up work next month to join me at the office which is fantastic!

It really helps to be able to get equipment and clothing at trade price for myself and the horses, even the feed bill (I have just started importing feed as it is so expensive in Norway, my friend and I now get it from UK at trade, a bag of Spillers is £40-45 a sack so we have really saved on that). Certainly makes the hobby more affordable.

I worked as an offshore logging engineeering and now I do onshore real time support which involves working 12 hours a day on a 2week offshore schedule.

I do miss the horses but I get alot of holidays which i use in the summer and I think that most people on a 9-5 in winter are able to ride that much so I dont feel like I miss out alot in the winter. It pays completely fo rmy horsey habit and has helped me get up on the property ladder and get a nice car too! Im hoping in 2years it will buy me some land!

I would rather horses all day tho! but working offshore is something that suits me alot better than onshore - not sure I could work a 9-5!

i used to work with horses and did a bit of buying and selling from my base but then met my OH, got a mortgage and had to get a real job to pay the bills!

now i work as a buyer for an international healthcare company (provide instruments for hospitals/ the army etc)

Showjump2003 - Im a physiotherapist also. What area do you work in? I work in the community and I love it! Flexible hours to fit in with the horsey and I find it very rewarding!

Vicki Krystal - No, didn't enjoy it really, it was very bitchy and that's not me at all. Was great to see the world, and I really did do that, but ultimately it wasn't worth it.

Prettybay. I'm still on junior rotations at the moment. Qualified two years ago but took a year out so just about to finish my first year as a junior. At the moment I'm doing medical and care of the elderly having done out patients for the last 8 months!

How about you?

I am a full time layabout and wastrel
grin.gif

Qualifications in accountancy, teaching (ICT and English) and IT with no intention of ever using them again if I can help it.

Actually, we buy, rennovate and sell houses and because we are not greedy we do OK. Horse keeping is much cheaper here, which helps, but also much more frustrating.

student full time

I also get money in by having a livery, for reschooling in at the mo, for 3 months!!
Also work as a groom which I love

And I also do advertising/secratary work for local business!

At the mo I'm a full time student - should (hopefully!) qualify as a midwife next year, and I'm hoping and praying there'll be a job for me
crazy.gif
At the mo, my hubby pays for my horse, if I was single there is no way I could fund his keep
frown.gif

I absolutely love the job, long hours, lots of stress but the most amazing job requirements - I really do get to meet someone new most days!
