I recently moved my gelding to a new yard which has access to fantastic hacking - acres and acres of woodlands, long, sandy paths, LOTS of steep hills and ditches. Up to now, we were used to flatter ground. During our first hack in this forest, while jumping up a ditch, I discovered that my saddle slipped back a bit. My boy has a wide, round, rather cobby back and mutton withers. So it got me thinking that I might need a breastplate now, but, as I haven't ever used one, I have no idea which would be better to choose. I'm inclined on a 5-point breastplate, but I've read varying reviews, so I'd be very thankful for experienced advice! What are the pros and cons of different kinds? Also, could a breastplate pull the saddle forwards, onto the withers? Thanks.
