Please tell me I'm not the only person who sometimes splashes out on luxury non-essentials for my neds.

This morning my new Otto Shumacher leather headcollar arrived from America

It's absolutely gorgeous, it's black with plum padding and stitching, but did cost £65 (they are £98 in the UK), which I feel is a little over the top for a headcollar

What luxury items do your horses have? It's time to confess

Rugs, rugs and more rugs. Nylon show sheet for when it's too warm for a rug. Extra Amigo turnout to use as a rainsheet at shows (I know, I know!)

Thermatex which I only use at shows, altho it has more than paid for itself. One of our show venues in the Fens can go from boiling to freezing in a minute ast the wind direction changes.

Very bling bridle from the USA and several gorgeous saddle blankets - altho they did help OH win a best turned out trophy last year!

Ditto silver covered show halter - but she does look gorgeous in it!

Oh and we only use Professionals Choice elite boots - which at £70 per pair can get a bit expensive.

Would love a really swish leather headcollar, just can't decide which one...

I know she's spoilt...most of my clothes come from Tesco!

One diamante bridle wasn't enough, so I had to buy another with gold buckles incorporating a comfort head piece and nose band, used ti once.

Black velour diamante saddle cloth which I've not even used, just saw it and though, gotta have it, its now collecting just in the house!

LOL I've just bought a rolled leather bridle for my 3yr old (she's not backed), have my eye on a nice stubben headcollar for her (the other one has a scratch on it!) and I've got a new foal coming next weekend so don't even start me on how much I can spend on that (I've already bought two new in hand bridles for next season for her!!)

No wonder I have to hide my credit card statements

because i am really sad my 3 have got their own colour sets of everything
buckets, rugs, wraps, headcollars, saddle cloths and grooming kits etc are in each horses colour
i tell OH its so i know whos rug etc if whos!the 18yo has 4 saddles and the 5yo has 3!lol.goodness knows how many bridles and other stuff they have each!

A Heritage bridle as her "show bridle". I used it a few times then broke the damned horse and now can't use it anyway!
I'm also about to buy her an expensive Rambo turnout rug. It's a luxury IMO as she could make do with her Mark Todd one she'd had since I bought her, but it's a bit short now she's a bit fat (her belly width takes up about 3" of length

) and it can rub her front as she has a really low-set neck. I'd buy an Amigo but the Rambo Supreme has the V front closure which doesn't rub. I'd buy a cheaper Wug version but I want the flexibility of having a hood or no hood. Hence the luxury of spending an extortionate amount of money on a lightweight turnout for a happy hack horse!
Her second saddle was also a luxury I suppose. We could have made do with just her GP but I kept my old pony's dressage saddle and had it fitted to Maiden. Two saddles is unnecessary in our case IMO (we'd never have got past prelim!) but seeing as I had the saddle already and it fitted pretty well...

Her final luxury - not technically an item bought, but just time. I could quite easily have listened to my (ex) vet and a few other people and have had her shot 16 months ago. Instead I kept her and gave her the time she needed to get better, and now she's rewarding that by coming sound and enjoying her walks out. Just a silly soppy "luxury" but there you go

They get the best of everything but I don't splash out on items they don't need because, at the moment anyway, we can't afford to do it. I spend about £700 a month on them - I think they should be grateful for that as my mortgage is only £550 a month!

I brought my horsey a Newmarket exercise sheet (like the racing ones), i thought he has to have it as he is actually a TB lol not a very good excuse! I've seen it for £59.99 in my local tack shop but i got it in a closing down sale for £10!!! I know it's a bargain but i would of brought it at nearly £60 anyway, i love it so much! I keep telling myself it's really cold and windy as an excuse to use it!
