Hi, I've recently bought a 138cm (lhc) connemara for my 8 year old daughter! :) She has really good breeding and we hope to qualify her for HOYS working hunter :p.
However do we enter her in the 138cm class with the small breeds or the large breed M&M class with all the 148cm's!?!!?! She is clearing 90cm jump courses with ease so we hope to do NC pony club teams as well. Please can someone answer my question, thanks!

It is divided by height not breed so you should do the 138 and under class, your pony would look small in the next class and be at a disadvantage.

If you are doing open M&M flat classes you will be in with the large breeds, but an 8 year old child will need to be very aware in the ring as the classes can be very large and the Welshies fairly intimidating when going round together.

Workers go by height so at 138cm the pony would go in the middle height section. As for other M&M classes you have the Opens, Novices and Junior Riddens of various descriptions. No matter what though you will always be in a ring with a various assortment of: Welsh D, Welsh C, Dales, Fell, New Forests and Connemara's. So big beasts. The Open Riddens fit all decsriptions. Novice Ridden, depending on society rules, is usually never to have been placed 1st in any Open class of the like (ie flat to flat, workers to workers. You can win a flat but still be a novive worker and vice versa). Junior Riddens are age dependant. Large Breed riders don't exceed 18yo. Some show then split the large breeds into 138cm and under and over 138cm so that the big D's, Dales and Connies are all thundering round with the smaller C's, Fells and small Connies making it safer for their younger riders.

Good Luck!
