i don't have a big horse as such (16.1) but he is claustrophobic and won't go on anything with low headroom i.e 505/506 , i have brought a cheval liberte 2003 and he goes on brilliantly (from hours of loading to minutes) it is light and airy with plenty of head room. but it depends on the weight you need to travel

Ifor Williams 510 - takes 16.2 ID and 17.1 easily. We have done some long journeys recently with it and the horses travel well. The key I found to ensure happy travelling on the aluminium floor was shavings on the matting.

i have a ivor williams 510, my biggest is around 17hh, he's heavy around 730 kg, and long he wears 7ft rugs, and his neck is megga long, he travels well and happily loads and travells without incident, he even managed to turn around in it once ! on way to leahurst prior to collic surgery, partition out and he wasnt tied up on recommendation from vet in case he went down, certainly never travelled him like that again, but he managed it and without a single scrape !!

the ivor williams is basic but strong, friends have tried bateson and cheval liberte, both been knocked about by the horses, the bateson alarmingly so, mare that caused it just lightly kicked sides when travelling, she wrecked it in a few journeys.

Ifor Williams 510. It carried my 17.2hh 750 kilo Irish Draught in comfort alongside a slightly smaller horse.

I am another one that uses an ifor williams 510 for my 17.2 lad ( 7ft rug size ). It certainly does not cramp him in any direction they are very roomy.

Ifor Williams 511 downsized from a 7.5t lorry this year - should have done it sooner :) this trailer is brilliant and the big horses travel well in it with room to spare!

we took 2x 15.2's in a 505 and I couldn't believe how cramped it was, owning a richardson supreme 2x 17.2 box there was a world of difference, I've had a giraffe (17.1 tb) and my 15.2 in that and there was loads of room. It's higher than the ifor equivalent and slightly wider, but shorter infront of the breast bar but having said that it accomodated the giraffes neck fine!!! So would rate any of the big richardson supremes, they even do a rear facing model if that's what you prefer.

I have always used the ifor 510 for my 17'2 - lovely trailer, fits 2 large horses in easily, Selling it now because we have sold the 4x4 and have bought a lorry. Anyone want a 510 black classic :)

I too used to have a richardson supreme it was certainly no bigger than the ifor 505, which is why I had to sell it as I bought a horse that would not fit in it. ( much to my oh discust ).
Like any of the trailer makes it all depends what model you have, a 510 is very much larger than a 505 same as a richardson supreme advance is very much different to a supreme excel.

Another vote for the Ifor 510. Fab trailer. My 17hh and still growing CB has plenty of room forwards, backwards, upwards and sideways... he's in 7ft rugs.

P, If the poster above is serious about selling hers, I'd snap it up!

My 16.3 (which isn't very big but she looks tiny in the trailer) has plenty of room in our rice Richardson.
Lots of head room, nice width even with partition in and plenty of length.

My mums lorry is for sale at the moment, as she's not competing very much anymore so she's going back to a trailer.
Her trailer of choice is the new shape Bockmann Top Master WCF..... As soon as the lorrys gone we're going shopping in Europe due to preferential exchange rate (they're not cheap, but they're fantastic)
So if anyone is looking for a sensibly priced Coachbuilt silver Leyland Daf 45/130, 16ft behind cab. 2 horse on a 'V' reg. Unfitted living, but bench seat, cut through cab, luton, tinted windows, laminate floor, tack & skirt lockers plus partioned cupboard / toilet etc. Please email me

I have an Equitrek Space L. It has the largest horse area of just about anything, and I chose it specifically because I have a 17.2hh TB who is incredibly long - he takes 7'3'' rugs. I also have a 17hh Gelderlander who is very stocky. I've had my equitrek for 18 months. I bought it from new. I go out every week, sometimes twice a week and it's never let me down and the horses travel well.

I have a Wessex Olympian, which 6-7 years ago was the biggest two horse trailer on the market (slightly wider than the then Ifor). Has been a great trailer, used to be used with a single breach bar for my massive ID 16.3 and is now used with partition in for my 18hh Warmblood. Weight wise I am happy to have him in and a smaller horse.
