*Soppy post!!!*

What is it about your horse that makes you just just completely adore him/her?

I think with mine, is just how much I can trust him and vice versa. We didn't have such an easy start together...it took a long while to really start to click with him and get him settled and both of us 'chilled' etc. Just a typical fun TB lad really! And me not really used to TB's or even liking TB's if I'm honest! [Completely changed my opinion now obviously ;) Any horse that stops mid canter to take a kick from another horse in his own shoulder rather than my knee getting it, is just utterly priceless to me! He rocks my world.]

Apart from almost every ride on him or whatever, how reliable and genuine he is now just continues to amaze me each time. Yesterday for example, decided to lie down in the sun and just let him hand graze for an hour...and he'll quite happily be oblivious to anything else and graze quite happily round me. Any other horse I'd feel worried about getting trodden on, but not with him. And the dog who grabbed his lead rope and decided to play tug of war with him.....didn't even bat an eyelid, just looked at me like he was sighing saying 'Oh sort it mum...' haha. Then ended up with his head in my lap wanting a 'head hug' and half sleeping! Crazy critter he is haha.

And then today....had to take a horse of ours to another field which is about a 1/2 mile away or so. So decided to ride the other horse there and led my lad in tow, to ride him back and carry on on a hack. Which involves going down the road for a little bit and then a grass track running parallel to about 7 fields with other horses in either side who tend to career round alot etc. Anyway...he's there in just a headcollar and leadrope being led off alongside, and not even so much of an ear twitch acknowledging the other horses or anything else around him...just stays with his eyes half closed with his nose shoved right next to my knee trotting along. And then we get to the field for the other horse, which is right next to the M4 [to get in the field, you have a gate then a tunnel under the M4 to the field on the other side.] So I tie my lad up to the gate and untack the other horse, swap the tack onto my lad and turn the other one out, with him still tied quite happily right under the M4 bridge! With the traffic within sight about 20ft above him, noise, colts running down the gate in the new field to meet the other horse I've just turned out, etc. And he just stands there and waits without a care in the world.

I could go on and on. But he really is to me, just the most genuine little horse I've ever known. I could honestly trust him with anything, with anyone probably.

Anyway. My mushy gush about him over.....

What about you guys?

:)

Horlicks isn't mine but what makes her so special (and hopefully "the one" soon) is the fact we click. When I ride her, I can never get a good tune out of any other horse like I can with her. I love her little quirky bits, even when she tries to nip me on the bum when I'm doing her rug up! Yeah she can be a moody mare, but I wouldn't have her any other way... and being moody means no one lese likes her!! :D

Olly is just his whole demeanour, he is just such an honest, genuine trusting little boy who you can do anything with.
Sandy is the fact that she is really starting to work with me rather than against me, and she is getting so affectionate these days considering how feral she was when I got her.

It's taken 12 months but I think Poppy & I have clicked - she doesn't have a nasty bone in her body, stands quietly when I get on her, non of the dancing about that I had a year ago. She always calls when she sees me and always comes when called. She is lovely and I am so glad I kept her, my confidence with her is growing. I am one lucky owner.

She is a complete mare and has attitude problems ;) but really we have complete trust in eachother and she always seems to be able to get me out of trouble :) love the beast to pieces!

He just has the most gorgeous calm, curious character. Everything is to be explored but nothing frightens him because he trusts me. If he's not 100% certain he sidles up to me
so I go first and then I honestly believe he would follow me to the ends of the world *love my boy*
oh and that he can make my 3 year old son laugh when he snuffles all over his head and neck just to see who he is! And stands like and angel while my son brushes him! Not bad for a horse who's not even two yet!

My horse has grown to trust me over the 6 years, although he does try it on every now and then,I love his personality. Wouldnt swap him for the world.

Cause we're both written off as no hopers but we're gonna kick some ass! ;) lol He's nappy, crib bites, bucks when flicked with a stick, dangerous to hack, he was a hatrack when i bought him at an auction, so much so everyone thought he'd die, he's still here and after much hard work won a BN and Disco at his 10th ever show (3rd BSJA) and loose schools over 1.40 oxers for fun. He's cocky and arrogant and I adore him, his whole attitude on a good day is 'can do' and theres more good than bad now. He's mine and I'd die for him.

He is a bad tempered, opinionated and stubborn g*t. He is cheeky, intelligent and naughty but never, ever boring! I love the fact that despite being a pain in the bum at times he is never predictable. He is a very picky lad and is very sparing with his love. We all know horses who happily "talk" to anyone; not my lad. He loves E and me and basically that is it. But boy when he loves you he does it full on, cuddles kisses and winnies. He will always try for us or try our patience!

Fany is special because she is the sweetest, gentlest mare who loves youngsters be it human or horse and is kind and loving to all. Easy to do generally she is very stoic when she has to have her legs done.

Overall both mine are "special" because of who they are. :D

FDC you sound as bad as me lol :D

I adore my lad. He is one of my soul mates and is, according to our YO, the most pampered horse ever. But to me he is special, I simply love him, he makes my world a better place to live.

To all horse owners their horse is special, we put a lot of energy, love and money into our horses and they become a central part of our lives. I think that is what makes horses special.

Too true!

rupert is special to me because he acts like my dad. i ride him out and hes like dont worry Jo, ill look after you and makes sure he does. when im playing with my 4 year old in the field, he watches smiling and when im puffed out, he stands with me. and when hes decided weve had too much fun, he will send little pony away and stand over me all protective. he gets jealous of other horses, but never complains about being the 'nannie' horse. he will stand for hours while kids climb all over his back and walks ever so carefully when theres little people on top. he would never ever hurt anyone and hes very loyal. hes a protector and a friend and i love him :) ever so much! he doesnt get enough credit.

shes 4... yet everything i ask of her she will do. I know i can go ride in a huge open field with horses galloping past her (tried it tonight) and she dosent move and inch...

i feel safe with her - riding and on the ground and i cant ask for much more than that

even if she dosent make the grade competition wise she will just become a happy hacker or have ababy as thers no way id sell such a special horse :)

Mine is an arrogant bargy swine and throws the biggest tantrums I have ever seen in a gelding, and owning him has been very difficult and highly embarrassing at times. But I can always guarantee if I have had a crap day for whatever reason, he always does something to distract me and make me laugh be it good or cheeky. I have mentioned this before that despite his bolshiness, when my Nan died he came straight up to me in the field and stood with his head on my shoulder. He is highly emotionally intelligent and very brave when he trusts you.
He has also taught me more about horses, myself and other people than anyone I have ever met. We will never win anything but life with him is all about the journey! Or so I keep telling myself....

So genuine, I can trust him in every situation. Except leaving the stable door open.....

^^ this, but including leaving the stable door open, and the feed shed door, and the gate... He'd rather be in his stable 99.99% of the time!

He's just brilliant - he's so good to hack - just goes where you point him until you tell him otherwise. He loves to jump and to hunt. He loads himself into the trailer. He is happy to go anywhere by himself, with someone else or whatever, he's even happy to leave the hunt as they move off.

What makes my horse special is that I 'met' him at college three years ago - I fell in love straight away and cried my eyes out like a little girl when I had to leave. Three years on I'm in a good job with good money, so started looking for a horse to buy...thankfully, I found out my horse was available for rehoming from my college, so he is now with me & I couldn't be happier!
He's an ex racer and been at racing college all his life - so he has never done anything else! But he is SO good, he has been on plenty of hacks with no problems, I've had complete novice riders trotting him round the school, ridden him bareback, had him jumping big 'scary' jumps and jumped him bareback. He keeps surprising me with things I didn't know he could do, he's a very good show off, doing all sorts in front of my family...he's especially proud of how well he can do a flying change.. :P
He's just so special to me, because he is my first ever horse and I just can't quite believe it's him....after all this time, he is finally at home with me....
couldn't be happier!

Because even after everything she has been through, she still trusts and loves us. She's a fighter; with a matching attitude!
She's bolshy and opinionated but ever so loving.
A firm favourite on the yard. Beautiful. I love her tantrums, and her need to ever fill her belly!!
She was written off as a danger when she was younger after the abuse she suffered and to look at her now you wouldn't even know what she'd been through.

He's able to put a smile on my face no matter how i'm feeling. He has given me back my confidence in jumping, he is the most honest horse i've known. I can always hack him out knowing that he'll get me back home in one piece, and even when something really scares him, he never does anything stupid.

Because when everything else in life goes wrong he is always there, he is not alwAys the easiest but he is mine and I love him, I went to look at something so different and came home with him so I think really he found me and I would never be parted from him even on the coldest darkest days he makes it all worthwhile.

Benson was so special because he knew every secret of mine. Things that I couldnt tell anyone else, not even my husband, I could tell Benson, and I knew he wouldnt say a word, and also he wouldnt judge me.
And Donovan, well, Donovan is special because he has helped heal my heart, and my mind.

Oso is special because he is the happiest, most positive horse in the world. He sees joy and fun in everything, always has his ears pricked and is looking for games everywhere he goes. He is so genuine and tries so hard to do what I ask, even though he is hyper sensitive and prone to distraction and panic. Although not 'cuddly' (he is too busy for cuddles!) he loves people, and horses, and dogs, and cats, and rabbits, and ducks, and crows and sparrows etc etc etc (but apparently not swans after he was attacked last week!). He isn't easy (I think he has ADHD!) but his sunny outlook on life always makes me smile...which is pretty special to someone who suffers from depression!

Cos he's mine. :D I just love him beyond reason and he never fails to make me smile. Wouldn't care if I never rode him again (not likely though) he will always have a home with me and always be my number 1.

Because he's my world.
He makes me laugh and he frustrates the hell out of me at times.
Because I've never ever met a horse with so much character, because i trust him with my life, because at 4 years old he looked after his nervous, scared mum and we have built a relationship together where finally I'm getting my confidence back.
Because his "hissy" fits wouldn't even count as another horse raising an eyebrow.
Because he's unique and every one who meets him falls in love. Because those eyes of his could melt the hardest heart
Simpley because when God made the Destroyer he broke the mold.

With Brig, because without even knowing it, we just seem to tune into each other much of the time. He's no angel - but then I have my off days too!

With Stanley, because he trusts me implicitly and I think he knows that we have already fought battles for and with him - and that I would even now, walk through fire for him.

With TJ, it's because, despite being the biggest bruiser of a horse, I can look him in the eye and he knows that I know that he's a softy at heart.
