My tb gelding had most of a large nail in his near hind hoof just over a month ago. He was successfully operated on then had two bouts of colic from his gut absorbing the anaesthetic but is now recovering very well. The vet said he was ok to be turned out on Wednesday but would need sedating. So we gave him sedalin waited an hour and turned him out and everything was fine. Today we thought as he was going out wiith another of his new buddiies he should be sedated again. So over an hour later he was turned out yet again. I watched him for a couple of minutes and then saw him wander over to the edge of the field and thought "Oh no you're not going to roll there?" Oh! Yes! he rolled right into the electric rope. Then of course tried leaping away and luckily the electric rope snapped. I checked him all over and he was fine. Then to finish off, 10 minutes latter this so called sedated horse is cantering around the field having a whale of a time! I am very pleased that he is feeling so good but am just waiting to see what happens next as trouble always comes in threes.
I've learnt my lesson, no more telling everyone he is not only beautiful and a good boy but also really sensible I think from now on I will just say he is a nightmare so that he can make me out to be a liar! Well that's my theory anyway.
Do horses usually do crazy things whenn sedated or is iit just miine?
