I am after a friend for my horse, but I don't want another horse! A friend of mine has 2 Soay sheep and them and his horse get on very well. I was just wondering if any of you guys keep non equine friends with your equine!! If so what do you have and how do they get on?

Two of our horses share their field with our 2 donks and 3 alpacas, they pretty much ignore the alpacas who stay very much together but they love playing with the donks!

It's maybe not my first choice of companion but a peacock has taken up residence in the starvation paddock. The 'big horse what is not allowed much grass' is currently in there on his own as our resident fatty and the 2 of them quite happily keep each other company. Mr Peacock scratches and mooches about next to the horse while he grazes, the 2 of them are together all day. Incidentally, I have no idea where the peacock has come from but he doesn't seem intent on going anywhere soon! :p :)

I did think about a donkey but I would have to pay another lot of rent per week but because the sheep are small and will benefit the land, I'm allowed to keep them there for free, just got to give him some eggs from my hens from time to time!!!!

Thats so sweet!! :)

In between livery yards i kept my horse tempoarily for three weeks in a large field which he shared with about 20 chickens, 20 geese, several sheep and a vietnamese pot bellied pig. Strangely enough he was always with the pig, (thought horses were terrified of pigs) all lived very happily together.

I keep my horse at home with three alpacas and it works really well. They spend all their time in the field together and in winter have a stable next to eachother. We were reluctant initially to put them all in a field together as horse used to be horrible with most horses he's been turned out with in the past, but he loves his boys!

My horses share their field with 2 sheep, Arnold & Nelson and lots of chickens (all have names but there are 14 of them & sure people don't want to read all their names :D )

Both are great for de-spooking the horses, the chickens also provide entertainment for horses on box rest. And for my foal who likes to chase them :D

A friend's pony lives in a field with a herd of beef cattle!

There is a herd of cattle in the next field, and Lukey quite often goes down the bottom to say hello, but it won't be long before they come in for the winter. I think he will miss his bovine buddies, maybe I'll get a cow too!! Would be cheaper in the long run the amount of milk we get through!!! ;)

I keep my horse at my friend's small holding, amongst other things she has pigs. Whenever her young filly is left on her own, she goes and stands with the pigs. I am sure they are her friends. She doesn't seem to notice that her pig friends gradually change as the big ones disappear and are replaced by smaller ones!

My boy is kept on a large estate in a private yard, so he has the sheep out with him quite often, he had the lambs earlier in the year now he has had the rams with him for quite some time. They get on great, except they stole his breckie one morn :( (cant believe he gave in and let them  ). He now has a bucket on the fence, they come round him and hover any little bits he drops, he couldnt care less. Also has a few geese with him, would rather not have them, noisy and make a mess, but he dont mind them, prefers the sheep tho. Will miss them when they go soon.:(

we have 5 sheep, chickens, ducks and a goose, horses arent fussed with them and birds and sheep couldn't care less. My rhea on the other hand loves to graze with the horses and they certainly dont mind him pecking away at the grass right by their heads :)
