Hi there,

I used to feed soya oil to my girly as it didn't blow her brains like cod liver oil!!! Unfortunately i don't seem to be able to get it from the supermarket anymore and don't want to pay tack shop prices.

What do you use?

Sunflower?
Vegetable?
Rape seed?

Thank you xx

Cod liver oil is dangerously rich in vitamin D, and drasticly increases the likelyhood of splints and other more serious problems. It should never be fed casualy as just another supliment, and only on veterinary advice,

I can never understand why horses are given cod liver oil - it's a fish oil and horses are vegetarian so surely it's not really ideal for their digestive system?!
I always used soya oil but it is a bit expensive now so I find I get similar results from sunflower/vegetable and linseed.

You can buy full fat linseed meal, which can be added straight to the feed. Much nicer than messing with liquids and makes them super shiney (around £20 for 25kg which lasts ages)

Corn oil & soya oil are the easiest to digest. Soya oil is higher in calories & tf better for weight gain however it is less palatable than corn oil.
