I have the GP version of the fhoenix saddle. I have a suber pad with it. I do not use the suber pad as i tried it and it made the saddle look really perched on my horse. I didnt even want to get on him with it like that as it was so high off his back.

I have been riding with just a thin saddle pad underneath but i dont feel like this is enough protection for his back as once we both warm up i sink into the saddle (i feel) too much and can really feel his back. i think long term i am not happy with this arrangement so want another pad to give his back more protection.

30min seems to be the max before i feel the saddle is too 'soft' and i am sitting too close to his back.

help!

I use a HM GP saddle with my horse, he is a bit croup high and I use a Numed hi wither numnah which retails at about £40, the saddle fits closely and there is extra padding where the stirrup bars go, also due to it been high wither it doesn't press on his withers at all. Good luck with it.

Hi i have a Phoenix dressage saddle and I just use a poly pad. My pony seems very happy with this. I have tried the suber pads and it isn't as bad once you get used to it. I felt like I was sitting on a cushion perched on another cushion to start with, but after a couple of rides it felt fine.

Are you using the foam panels now that you have taken the suber pad off? With the foam panels in place then just an ordinary numnah should be enough protection.

I use mattes or lemieux pads with the high wither under my fheonix dressage saddle. I also use a mattes with half lined sheepskin when he is on his leaner side and the plain pads when he has a bit of weight on. All of them go really well under the saddle.

You will feel the horse more with one of these saddles, it's a feature of riding in these soft treed saddles.
I'm pretty sure Polypads aren't recommended, you could check with Fhoenix Saddles to be certain, but I believe that's what they said when I did the training to fit them some time back.
Do you mean that you had a standard Fhoenix GP saddle, and a separate Suberpad underneath? In which case, now you have stopped using the Suberpad you still have the foam inserts in the pockets in the saddle that form the gullet. If that's the case any high wither numnah will be fine. If the saddle isn't sitting right you might need to add the full back pad or wither pad, or you may need to swap the foam inserts for the gullets. If you're not sure about the fit of the saddle it might be worth investing in a visit from a Fhoenix saddle fitter. But get used to the feeling of the foam under your seat warming up and sinking down, that is what it's supposed to do.
