My friends mare is out of a pony which lives on Bodmin Moor and the stallion was a Welsh D. Having no idea what the mare was like, we'd like a bit of a rough idea. So what type of ponies tend to live on Bodmin Moor? Moorland areas that I know of around here all seem to have their own Natives but what about Bodmin?

Dartmoor = Dartmoor Ponies
New Forest = New Forest Ponies
Exmoor = Exmoor Ponies
Bodmin Moor = ?????

My pony came off Bodmin Moor. I was told his dam was half Exmoor, which I can believe as he has the Exmoor mealy rings round his eyes and the Exmoor "fan tail" and looks similar to an Exmoor in several other ways. He is almost 14hh, big for a Bodmin Moor pony, and has an Arab-type face apart from the mealy rings! I think "mixed bag" is what comes to mind! He is gorgeous...and it's not just me who thinks so...

Little, hairy & interbred?

My first pony came off Bodmin Moor as a weanling (well he was about 3mths old :( ) and some cracking ponies have come from there over the years, but there's no defined 'type' like there is with Dartmoors or Exmoors.

can i just point out there are no dartmoor ponies on dartmoor.

there is whats now called the dartmoor hill pony which is a mixture of all sorts, often a shetland mix other wise pure mongrel and not pure dartmoor.

Yes I know, but the OP made specific reference to moorland area's near where she lives so I just used those two examples.........wild ponies on Dartmoor do as you say answer to the same descriptions (yours, JRPs & mine :D) as Bodmin Moor ponies.
