I have had a dressage saddle on eBay twice and it hasn't sold, so have just been reading the post on selling the second hand heavyweight rug with interest!

I put it on for what I thought was a reasonable price but now maybe I'm wondering if I'm asking too much. I did look at what else was on eBay first and thought I'd pitched it right but maybe not.

This isn't an advert but can someone give me an indication of what I should be asking for a second hand dressage saddle in excellent condition. It's branded as Origin which is the make my saddler used to sell his saddles under but it's made by Ideal.

I was asking £300.

Thank you

I bought a second hand english GP GFS on ebay for £100, leather was in good condition but sent it away to my saddleman to have it softened up & inside done & fitted to my boy..cost a further £100.

As it is not a well know brand I doubt you would get anyone looking at it with a reserve of £300.

Second hand saddles are getting more and more difficult to sell unless it is a popular brand eg. Albion. A few years ago the saddlers would nearly always take a saddle in part exchange but now the best they will normally offer is to take it and try to sell it on your behalf.

Might be worth trying Saddles Direct if they are still taking saddles.

Ah ok thank you eggs.

I paid £600 for it second hand then decided dressage was too much stress so gave up! As I'd only used it less than half a dozen times and had it flocked I'd priced it reasonably well.

My saddler will take it to sell and take his cut, but I had someone who wanted it then backed out so decided to try eBay for a quickish sale.

I'll try Saddles Direct - thank you for the tip :)

Bought 3 saddles on ebay

Barnsby 1 - £250
Barnsby 2 - £300
GFS - £290

GFS no longer fitted and tree had broken so took it to saddler , gave me £200 for it and £350 for Barnsby 2, so only ended up paying £150 for brand new Bates :)

Ebay isnt the best for selling saddles but is good for buying.
Try your local saddler.

ETA sorry didnt notice bit about your saddler. Does he only sell for a commission? All ones I know buy saddles and sells them on themselves

Try preloved i get really good results for everything on there. Sold my kent and masters gp for £575!
I get huge amounts of interest for everything iv sold on preloved whereas never seem to have any luck with ebay these days!
and preloved is free ;-)

I just sold my dressage saddle on the BD website. You can become an associate member, for free and that allows you to put an advert for tack on their website, free of charge. I kept putting the ad on every week, so it stayed visible. Mine sold after 2 weeks. Try there. If your saddle is in good nick, I don't think £300 is unreasonable. Take a couple of photo's and try it there. ( I offered that someone could take it away for a week to try it, after leaving me full payment in cash).

I shouldn't bother with Saddles Direct. I spoke to them. They offered to take my KN and sell it for £600, they said they would give me £350 back when they had taken their cut. Which I thought was a bit much. I would rather have set fire to it, than sold it for that little, it was virtually brand new.

It's been on PreLoved for a little while & I've advertised it locally - all to no avail, so I've now dropped the price on eBay and will see what happens.

Those 5 or 6 rides I've had in it have turned out to be very expensive :D

Thanks everyone
