never brought a second hand one as last one was built to order.

make sure the plate on the lorry matches up with the weight and the ref numbers on the documentation.
Ask for written confirmation of its unladen total weight, diff between that and the plate will give you total horse plus humans plus tack plus kit capacity, but preferably get them to drive it with you to the nearest public weightbridge and get a printout, worth its weight in gold.

I say this from experience of buying a box which was untruthfully described, supposed to have been suitable for carrying 2 heavy hunters, in fact you couldnt have put a shetland on it without being overweight, rejecting it and getting a refund was a nightmare.

Check the floor. If its got a sealed floor that you cant inspect underneath, personally I would walk away. It might be fine but you cant check its condition.

Definatley check the weight.
Ask to see the cab tilt if you want a tilt cab.
Get all the rubber matting up and check floor.
Look out for rust / take pics / take a man with you.

Most importantly, please, please, please get a mechanic to look over it before you part with your money. There are so many death traps on wheels out there, you won't regret having a second, professional opinion.

Also, (i'm guilty of doing this) don't get caught up in the excitment and say 'oh yes it's lovely,' think objectively, asks lots of questions- right questions down if you think you might forget them when you get there.

Ok i am goign with my friend just to look & test drive tonight and take pictures for hubby to view (he's busy with harvest so cant get away) then if it is the one i will send my mechanic to do all the major checks engine/floor/build wise
