What rights do I have to refund for dog food from eBay that smells disgusting and must be off?

I bought two big bags of kibble from eBay last week, as a "make an offer" purchase. It's in (Skinner's) old packaging and has a best before date of 3.2.22, so is old stock. I'm not worried by a best before date that was only a month ago, I've fed dog food that's slightly out of date before. This kibble absolutely stinks, it.smells so strongly that it reeked before I even opened the box the bag is in!. It makes me feel sick, and I can smell it from a distance. The bag doesn't appear to be damaged. I can't feed it to my dog in case it makes him ill and I've paid £43 for it! Does anyone know if I have a right to a refund, as it was bought at an offer price, and was listed with the (out of) date? I could kick myself, £43 is a lot of money to me and I will have to buy something else to replace it. I'd like to know where I stand before trying to get a refund.

If I was ebay, I'd point out you were the one who chose to buy out of date product. Sorry!

That's what I'm worried about, but dog food that's a month out of date surely shouldn't smell much/any different to food that's just within date. If it was a year out I could understand it. It's a chemical smell, completely different from any dog food I've smelt before.

Skinners dog food is not made with preservatives, so if the bag has been damaged at all, it will go off.
Have seen it at work when there's been a tiny hole. The new packaging is harder to damage.
Open a case with ebay.

Right or wrong if you open a dispute eBay will refund you.
Years ago I sold a brand new never worn very expensive pair of shoes. Weeks after the purchaser said they were damaged. Probably because she had worn them for weeks and trashed them. Despite me having dozens of photos of the shoes in immaculate condition eBay immediately refunded the purchaser the money no questions asked. It’s one of the reasons I won’t sell on eBay anymore.

twobearsarthur and the reason I stopped selling on ebay, so many scammers who want freebies. In your case OP as others have said open a IND case Item not as described. You should get refunded, the seller probably wont want to send you a label for a return although ebay can enforce that, dont send it back with your own label and if the seller wants the item back and sends you a label make sure it's a tracked and signed for label and upload the tracking once sent. Good luck.
