rightoo just wanted to know peoples opinions.

Ted is currently wearing a medium weight (i think) Shires full neck rug. Im not sure what you'd call his clip .. trace or chaser? not a blanket clip. heres a pic ..

His clip is growing out now, and hes always pretty toasty under the rug he wears .. but next week he's getting full clipped as he sweats up very quickly (rather fat and VERY unfit) so then he takes ages to dry and im worried he'll catch a chill. So Ted shall soon be naked

for when hes clipped I have a Weatherbeeta middle wieght full neck under rug and his lightweight turn out he no longer wears in the field.

Now... would any of you rug him differently now and when hes clipped? I dont know what breed he is but i think hes mostly native.

Any suggestions welcome

It depends on him really, some horses are 'hot bods,' and never need heaps of rugging.

Most clipped horses on our yard are in HW's now , some with an under-rug under that

He is normally quite warm even without a rug .. another thing his owner insists on is that hes rugged or he may get chilly :/ But when hes full clipped he will want some rugs lol

Is there anyway you could pop his current MW on for a short period, e.g while your mucking out and then see how he is in it?

Least then if he does get cold it wont be for too long

haha im confused

he wears his Shires MW all day with no extra rugs all night although his owner wants him wearing a fleece but he sweats with that on underneath and i try to swap his MW for the LW during the day but yet agian ... owner doesnt like it cause he may get coldd

It all depends on the horse. One of mine is warm in her MW when its -2, the other is okay in her HW with full neck on the same day. Neither are clipped.

Sounds like you know how to rug this horse better than his owner!
Given what you have said he sounds like a 'hot horse',just like my mare, I would just keep to the same rug, I would not increase it even with the full clip. If he gets cold, which I doubt from the information you have provided, up the rug

I agree, I think he could be a "hot horse", I can leave his rug off for over an hour and he doesnt seem to get cold

I'll put the under rug on him once hes clipped and just tell his owner its warmer than the other one

it must be used seeing as I just spent £50 on it haha! (I loan him hence the reason I bought him a rug before anyone asks
