My lovely ginger 4 year old was backed in Spring and was going brilliantly- hacking and very light schooling! My saddler recommended a 16” thorrowgood as although 15hh, she is short coupled. She was backed in a racing saddle. All was fine until July when she put on weight and saddle was obviously tight so she had a few bucking episodes and saddle slipped forwards! Saddler suggested wider gullet but I still didn’t feel she was comfortable! I then stopped riding her and just been doing ground work. I would like to bring her back into work but not sure what to do saddle wise! I love the look of AH saddles but don’t think there is a fitter in Staffs! Also quite like the look of Solutions saddles! Any thoughts on them? My older mare has an Equipe but it’s a 17” so no good and a little narrow!

I’ve recently gotten a chunky monkey freedom for my lad who is silly short. It’s got saddle panels that are cut back so specifically made to be able to sit on a short back horse with shoulders but still give the rider a long leg panel. If that made sense 🙈

I use Lavinia Mitchell saddles on both of my Arab's they are the original one's made by Lavinia as I believe the company is owned by someone else now but are of the same concept.

They come in a variety of sizes and widths I would imagine your horse needs a wide flat gullet which is the issue I had with Louis, most saddles just perched on his back as he has a wide flat wither you need something with that profile.

Sbloom fits AH she will know who covers your area I'm sure they cover the whole of the UK.

Oh yes, Lavinia Mitchell saddles were another on my list! 🙈🙈 We are hopefully moving down to Hertfordshire next year as daughter has just had a baby! Have you got a fitter nearby?

Oh really that will be lovely for you would be great to meet up some time let me know how it goes, if i can be of any help just drop me a message.

I don't use a Lavinia Mitchell fitter I understand the shim concept so I am confident to adjust that myself if they need shims, but for general fitting and flocking I use Matt Crippen he understands the wider horse and I've used him for years his really good, his on Facebook I believe and has a website.
