And are they as good as the people selling them would have you believe..

Interested in doing a bit of research into these... I bought a wintec pony saddle for my sec A but obviously I'll never have to sit on that one!

I've heard bad things now about these saddles - what exactly is wrong with them and is there a different adjustable saddle (Synthetic or leather) that is better. (Looking to buy a youngster so would like a saddle that can change with them!)

Can't really help but would be interested to see answers for same reason.
Friends have got the Isabella dressage one think by wintec?? they like it.I would like a leather one tho if you get them.

I've got a Thorowgood T4, which has been fab, but just swapping it for a Kent and Masters jump, which is basically a leather version of the synthetic Thorowgood. They're made by the same company. My saddler really likes them - as well as the adjustable gullet, they have 'fish' inserts (a temporary measure for horses with muscle wastage/weight loss/uneven muscle) and can be flocked the same as an ordinary saddle. Plus I found them extremely comfy :)

I have the Anky dressage saddle which has an adjustable gullet. For me it's a god send as I have a young girl who is going to develop and muscle up over time and so it means that rather than keep buying new saddles I can just change the gullet size and the saddle will still fit. However I would point out that I would also call in my master saddler before changing the gullet just to make sure that it does need changing etc and also get them to do it so that I know it is done correctly and anything else needed doing at the time can be done.

I don't think they are a good idea if the person using them doesn't really have a clue about to fit a saddle and so ends up putting in the wrong gullet size and can lead to so many problems.

I think that more saddles and especially 'named' saddles now do come with the adjustable gullets not just the synthetics

I tried both the wintec 500 and a bates saddle on my youngster. The synthetic fit but the leather one to the same pattern? did not. It altered as the youngster grew and still fits now aged 11yrs, bought when it was a 4 year old. I have used 4 different gullets over the years.

I'm in the same boat, breaking my youngster. I called few saddlers for info and a fitting, 4 out of 5 told me to get synthetic especially for the first year or so as they change shape so much and it would mould better than a leather one would. I bought a Wintec 500 (I've always had leather saddles until now) and so far so good. Had the saddler out to fit it properly and I'm now lunging him in it (I'm not in the saddle yet) with no problems. Its nice and light and soo easy to clean! I just don't know if its comfortable for me!
