i have a fantastic little 12yr old 13.2 chestnut gelding he has done everything SJ, XC, ODE'S, hunter trials, combined training etc and i absolutly love him to pieces!!! however i am getting a bit big on him and cant afford to keep two horses. in some ways i feel like im ready to move on to bigger horses but i feel like i would be betraying him if i sold him.
what should i do???
how much do you think i would get for him???

Been keeping an eye on the market as daughters 11.2 loan pony is getting too small for her very long legs, and at some point next year they're going to be clipping the fences too often if she carries on growing. I've seen similar are priced generally between £2-4K, sometimes more in the SE - the 2 x 13.1 on the right are a case in point, the older Oxon one is a lot more than the younger Glamorgan one - depends what he's done and how good he is to hack, traffic farrier, load etc. Some seem to sell quickly, some seem to hang about and get readvertised, autumn isn't such a good time of year to sell as the spring though.

Could you keep him, and find a little jockey local to you to help with the costs, or put him on loan if you can't bear to sell him?

you could loan him (be careful). loan to stay at yours(company and you keep an eye on him, loanee to pay costs and keep) or wave goodbye and sell? contact local dc of pc to see who is looking for what? as to value could be anywhere between 600 and 3500 dep on ability and breed.? done bsja? any money on card?

13.2
welsh X arab
12yrs old
chestnut
highest he has jumped with me is 3'6.
we are currently competing unaffiliated around 2'9-3'3 courses
jumps anything and everything. water trays, fillers and anything cross country.
done pony club eventing and unaffiliated one day events.
good to catch, shoe, load,,in traffic,,hacks alone and in company.

I really dont want to sell him but the problem with our yard is that its quite expensive so not sure many loaners would want to pay to keep him there and i am reluctant to let him leave the yard because of what could happen
:S

Unfortunatly wrong area

Certainly I know of 2 kids in this area who are looking to move onto larger ponies and if yours is as good as he sounds you shouldn't have to much of an issue selling him.

As others have suggested, contact PC DC/RC organisers and mention to everyone. Thats the safest way to find a good new home, or to throw up a loaner, who may even pay to keep him on the yard if it has good facilities.
