Okay well I'm going to uni in september 2010 and I want to go to Leeds, and I live about 30mins bus journey so would be easy to get there and live at home and I would be able to keep my horse, but I really want to live in the halls, as I think I would miss out on a lot and it will be a great experience.
I could try get somebody to loan him either part time or full time and as he is stabled at a riding school, may be easy to find someone, or I could sell him and buy a new one after uni?
What would you do? Go to uni and live at home and keep him, Live in the halls and part loan him out, live in the halls and full loan him out or sell him :S
thanks guys..

Loaning him to someone you know would be the best idea as you know its going to be looked after properly,or half loaned to the riding school and half loaned to someone you know

You deffinately cant live at home and go to uni!!! Got to go into halls! I would put him up for Full loan LWTB then you will make sure you have the best home for him and you wont be worrying about him too much when you are partying at uni.

Halls for you, loan for pony

Definitely try to live in halls at uni, not a good idea to spend uni years at home!!! So, find a loan arrangement for the horse - or sell, depending on what you find easier. University is a great experience and you only get the chance once so enjoy as much as you can!
PS loved my uni time in Leeds, great city to be a student in!!!
PPS if someone loaned him part time you could still go up and see the horse on X amount of days in the week so still see him?!

Hi, I stayed at home when I was at Uni and kept my horse. It did mean I got the best of both worlds but it was very hard work and I did also miss out on a lot of the social life. Living in halls is how you meet lots of new people, everyone moves in to halls before freshers week so by the time freshers week arrives a lot of friendship groups are already established. Don't get me wrong, there were plenty of other great people and I still made lots of friends but when you're going home to mum and dad's house and everyone else is off back to halls at the end of the night will you mind that? Also, when everyone's settled in the SU bar and you have to disappear to muck out/get in etc are you going to find it a tie? Why don't you put him out on loan and see how it goes?
Good luck! Enjoy Uni

I live an hour and a half from uni, still have my horse, live at uni most of the time and ride 6 times a week. My timetable is very helpful this year though.
It is hard work but for me it is the ideal solution:
Mon-get up at 6.30, ride and turn out, drive to uni and have a day of lectures, stay at uni mon night
tues-horse has day off, all day at uni, stay tues night
weds-lecture at 9am, drive home, ride do yard and put horse to bed, stay at home
thurs-up at 6.30, ride turn out, drive to uni, day of lectures, usually stay thurs night
fri-no lectures on a fri but usually go out thurs night and i can have a lie in and recover! drive home lunchtime-ish and ride and do yards.
Home all weekend to have lessons and compete!

This does make my week very hectic and expensive as i am paying for a house i only spend 3 nights sleeping in plus the petrol. But I am lucky that when I am not there my mum will do the horse for me but refuses to ride her! I do this so that I can compete but I don't miss out on uni life and as I am out during the week I generally don't go out at weekends so I can concentrate on my horse.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do

There's more to going to Uni than just getting the degree - you need to take advantage of the whole experience. You really should move out from home and into halls.

Depends what you want to get out of uni really and how important pony is. Agree with what HollyB66 says get bus to pony and then see how it goes. If you decide he is too much of a tie then sell him, but you might find that you enjoy the time out.
