What should I do with my mare?

I have a mare to sell and I am not sure whether I should advertise her now as a nice youngster to bring on or wait and do a bit more with her and sell her for more. She is a 16h approx, bay 6yo tb mare, she works in an outline, hacks out quietly, canters in open spaces and doesn't seem to freak out at anything. She jumps a pole, would probably jump a small course right now or do a basic dressarge test.

However, I could take her xc schooling, clear round jumping, maybe get someone else to do some unafflicted dressarge on her to increase her value but I'm not sure if it would pay in the long run. She's not a hugely expensive horse- I would be looking around the 2k mark for her as she is but I suppose if I carry on for a couple of months I'd want it to increase to at least £2750.

What are your views?

Sorry, forgot to say, I'd aim her at RC level/hacking as she's a sweetheart but I don't think she has limitless talent! I could be wrong of course.....

Hi, I would advertise her now and if she goes, she goes.
She actually sounds a bargain at the price to me, unless she only has three legs, or eats children for breakfast on a regular basis, then I should think she'd sell.

If she doesn't, then carry on working with her and up the price as she improves. If money is a factor you have to weigh the costs I think, is it going to cost the 750 or so extra you mentioned in keep and fees just to keep and bring her on a bit more?

Hahaha, she actually has 4 legs (one at each corner) and only eats children on occasion! Bless, I suppose it will cost around £250 to get her out and about including keep for a month or two so it would be worth it for an extra £750. I kind of just want a nice understanding home for her so the money making side isn't my main aim (although i would certainly help...) If anyone wants to help out- you can send your children to me to reduce my feed bill ;)

P.s Disclaimer, she doesn't actually eat children that I know of....

I would keep her a bit and get a record at some unaffil stuff... I'd guess that the market you are looking for are more likely to want something a bit 'tried and tested', whereas those looking for something to school on and take out for first parties etc might want something thats ultimately going to be a bit more scopey? Might be totally wrong though....
If I were you I'd get her out and about over next two months and advertise her for £2995 ono - I think for £2k people might think there is a reason she is cheap (eg child eating!!)

I'd advertise her now and keep working on her whilst shes advertised, it could take a little while to sell and you could always update the advert as you do more with her.

Plus if someone has their eye on her for a particular disapline the fact thats she has done the other may not appeal to them (you know some people are funny like that)

Seems like your asking a decent price for her and by the time you keep her a couple of months you'll prob only end up getting your livery costs back.

Good luck whatever you decide

Thanks everyone, obviously I'm not purposefully keeping from competing her and if anything comes up that's suitable I'll take her. There is a showjumping lesson this afternoon that I'm hoping to get into at the last minute....fingers crossed.

I'll try to get some nice pics of her and start advertising her now, you never know she might be a superstar waiting to happen- I just haven't had that feeling about her so far.

Thanks for your help folks! :D
