I recently bought a horse and I do like him and he is fab, but he is not really what I wanted, but I'm not sure if we just havent bonded yet...
anyway, I'm going to university next year and I live just outside of Leeds, and want to go to Leeds Uni.
My parents think I should live in the halls as I will miss out on a lot and I really agree with them.
But I dont know what to do about the horse, I could get somebody to loan him part time or I could sell him and buy a new one after uni?
Owww, I really dont know

I want to go to uni, but I want to keep him. full livery is far too expensive for us too & my parents will be paying my uni fees.
Should I try find someone to loan him, sell him, stay at home & keep him, sell him & buy a new one (as he is my first horse and I dont think he has the potential to do what I want), sell him and go away to uni and buy a new one after :S
arghhhhh.
sorry for the essay

Give it 'til next year and see how you feel. If you've bonded and he really is the horse for you then think about loaning him. If you and he are never going to be the right partnership then sell him. Def go and live in halls for uni, you will miss out if you don't!

The other thing is if your in halls and the loan doesnt work where is he gonna go? I have learnt horses and uni dont mix, my partying and social life involves driving the horse to the pub for a quick one (cant afford clubbing and horses) hehehe. However im happy with that and for me defo right choice to keep my man

I think you can already see the answer to this as you mention a few key facts in your post..

he is not really what you wanted..
he doesn't really have the potential to do what you want..

What is the point in loaning him out to somebody else for three years? The chances are that he will be even less likely to be what you want - he will just be three years older and probably have less value unless he goes to somebody who does a lot with him.

You would be far better off making a clean break - sell him to a good home where he will have lots of attention and be happy so you can go off and throw yourself fully into the Uni experience then you can buy your dream horse when you finish.

There is no point going through the grief of keeping a horse through uni (even if it is on loan as he is still your responsibility and they may decide to give him back etc.) unless he is your DREAM horse and you cannot bear to part with him. Anything less than that - head should rule heart.

sell him, you have your doubts and obv not that committed to the horse so stop wasting his and your time, try to find him a home where he will be just what they are looking for and go to Uni and have the time of your life without the responsibility or expense of a horse back home.

I agree with those that say sell him. He obviously isn't what you really wanted so make the break now and save the trouble of loaning going wrong or struggling with time at uni

Not the case for me at all!! Dont know how i would cope without my horse at uni and i live in halls with him at a yard nearby (at notts uni). Didnt have him for the first term and that meant i could make frends and party and do student things and then bought him up to uni after christmas last year - havnt looked back since!! But i am ultra dedicated to my boy and he is more important then drinking
