My best friend is looking for a 13.2-15hh no bigger pony. It must be quiet, good to hack out and of a standard to show at least to big local show/small county show standard. It can be any age, does not need to have too much experience with competing as she can do that- any type is fine too she just loves showing/whp type classes and dressage.

But she hasnt bought a horse in 4 years (her last pony was on loan) so she doesnt want to be ripped off- her brief is unlike anything i have ever owned so i cant put a price bracket on it. I know for a fact she wont have more than £3000 to spend though- is it do-able?

That's the type most people want and they cost a fortune - I would say she's very optimistic hoping to get all of that for under 3K.

Had a quick look on Horsemart and from what I can see for that price range she will either get a reasonable looking baby that's recently backed, or something over the age of 15. Horsequest has everything listed as "county level show standard" as upwards ok 6K for a 4 yo.

Agree with chestnut cob.....my girl is a show county standard 15hh 7 yr old tri coloured, very safe and sensble and has been valued at around the £6.5K-7 mark...and thats with not a huge amount of competition experience...had she already competed at county level, she would be nearer the £10K mark.
The problem is the 'quiet' bit....everyone is after horses like that and it has bumped the prices up no end. Couple that with ability to show a high local/county standard and I'm afraid she's probably going to need at least double.

But thats ok- as it doesnt need to have experience- as she will do that, so something just backed is fine as she is more than capable of getting it to a good schooling standard... i just hope the prices doent rise dramatically over this spring!

With a good eye, she'll find a nice pony with £3000 happily. Clearly she'd not going to find anything ready made and she may have to look around. I think she could find a very nice newforest with that which she can bring on to show. Have a look at their website. Newforests are on the rise and doing rather well at the moment so good little investment too.

I have that pony, a NF 14h 5yr old bought him last September and he was £3150 so can be done. He is a really good quality pony perfect gentleman to hack out but still a bit of a baby and has not been to many shows. NF are super ponies really underated in my opinion, they don't seem to do so well at showing compared to other natives though as they are more workman like and not so pretty or flash.

i have a 13hh rising 5 gelding, great temperament, loves hacking etc backed last summer, has hunted and jumped a few small fences. he is very showy and has good bloodlines and i am looking for around £2000 for him with tack and rugs. Don't know if that helps!!
