What should I expect???

I've bitten the bullet and booked in on a flatwork schooling session with one of our local riding clubs....but I have no idea what to expect! I havent done Pony Club since 2002, so am out of practice when it comes to riding as a group under instruction goes!

What are we likely to be doing? I booked on the Novice/Intermediate session (the other was 'Beginners/Improvers'). Any info or advice appreciated!

Is it individual or group? you will probably have to do your own thing for a few minutes so they can assess you and your horse then they will probably get you working on the accuracy of circles, serpentines, change of rein, upward & downward transitions collected & working trot, canter, leg yield, shoulder fore/in etc its all fun so just go with the flow and see what they pull you up on then work on it at home.

It's a group session, although I dont know how many there will be in the group! I'm really looking forward to it, Ellie and I havent really mingled with other horsey people for a long time, it will be nice to get out there and meet people!
We're not in the best of shape at the moment - I havent had a dressage lesson since before Xmas, so the instructor will probably have a benny when she sees my hideously underschooled horsey! But as you say, it will give us lots to work on

I'm sure you'll enjoy it, they're really good fun.

I tend to go to the jumping ones rather than the flat but sometimes go with my friend to the flat ones. The peole there are very friendly so you will have fun.

Lessons will be based around what the people/horses in the group are capable of, but in the second group they do things like leg yielding, canter/halt/canter over the centre line. Lots of changes of rein etc.

Do KVRC do much in the way of XC schooling? I've only just regained a little of my jumping nerve, and would like to get out and a bout a little bit!

I'm not booked in for the 6th but my friend is so I might come along if i have time!

Jumping isn't all gridwork, last week we were jumping angles which was fun. Why don't you like grids?

They do a few sessions of XC training, keep an eye on their website. They have a nice little ODE at the end of May - even I've had a go at that and I don't do xc!

That's when I lost my nerve! We did a sponsored ride on Sunday and jumped for the first time in 3 years...she was amazing, jumped everything, and I kinda feel we might just be able to start doing a little bit again, even perhaps just some very low key XC schooling (we've never really done XC before

I saw that KVRC's ODE is at Rabson....I went up and did some dressage there last year and thought it was a lovely place! The XC course looks really sweet, but I dont know I'd have the guts to go and do a ODE before any kind of schooling, ideally I'd like to be able to go in a pairs class at a hunter trial or something first.

I'm scared of jumping on any horse other than my own, this makes no sense to anyone else as he can be a total loon - he feels safe to me though

I only did the ODE because it was at Rabson, it's such a lovely place to get your confidence up. I hadn't done XC for about 6 years before that!

KVRC did some training there a couple of weeks ago, it's a shame you missed that.

I'll try to pop over next week!
 
Oh I completely know what you mean re. only wanting to jump your own horse! I feel the same with Ellie...I lost my nerve full stop, it was nothing to do with being scared of her specifically. My SJ trainer let me ride his Grade A, HOYS-placed mare at home, and I pleaded with him not to make me jump her, I was terrified!

Tis a bugger I missed the Rabson training! Didnt expect to get bitten by the jumping bug again though....who'd have thought a few tiger traps on a sponsored ride would make me retract all those years of saying 'I'm never ever jumping again'!!!!!

If you do go on Tuesday, you'll notice us by our abundance of sheepskin
