My little welsh section D filly is rising 2 this year in August.
I've never given her hard feed just Haylege/hay and grass in the winter and now on full time summer grazing and theres a large salt lick in the field.
I thought she was looking a bit "wormy" so had a worm count done and it came back at 50 so no worming was required and the vet said it's just a "grass belly" which is made to look worse as she is quite bum high at the moment. My question is- is a pure forage diet healthy enough for them to mature properly, I've always been raised to think it is I just wanted other people's opinions?

slow grow on grass and hay is the best option for horses. if worried give a handful of blue chip or other good balancer 3 to 4 x a week. they would grow on the hills on grass and hay! maturity isn't until 5/6 yrs so no rush!

Most pasture now sadly doesnt have all the vits and mins a horse needs, but youngsters do go through funny stages and it's the time of year for grass belly. What I've found works best is just to give them a scoop of multi vit in a feed (non molassed sugar beet and chaff) when you bring them in to groom, etc.

D&H Suregrow is absolutely fab for youngsters!
My YO swears by it.
Honestly it's deffo worth the money. Brings their coat out beautifully and is full of all the vits and mins they need and aren't getting from the grass.
