After missing out on a fabulous looking grey mare this week I stumbled across an advert for loan/share/possibly buy horse very localy. Turns out the horse was being moved to the yard where my brother in law keeps his horse and that we were going to for a show yesterday.

Any hoo met owner and had a look at the horse and daughter will be going to ride tommorow.

If riding goes ok I am going to try to negotiate a 3 month loan with a view to buy. I suspect she will want a loan at her yard - pricey and a lot of driving around so may consider compromising and try a 4 - 8 week share/loan at her yard.

If we did share or loan I would want to fix the price prior to loan period.

The horse is a coloured 15.3 WB x TB gelding, 6yo , bit scruffy, overweight, not much topline. Was broken by breeder and purchased by owner as a 5yo. Had been to some big CHAPS shows and been placed, but not highly. Has hacked and jumped with previous owner (only 2'9" ish), the current owner has hardly ridden him since.

Allegedly he is very quiet to school, fairly good but a little green to hack. He is head shy and difficult to bridle and was a bit rude when his owner was handling him. He is suppopsed to be good with farrier loading etc. No glaringly obvious confomational defects. Overall picture looked good.

What sort of figure do you think I should be thinking about. She had suggested 3.5k, I think thats a bit steep given that he has done nothing for a year and is headshy. Difficult without a piccy I know but at this point I dont think it would be appropriate to post a pic.

You learned opinion would be most appreciated. In the mentime Ihave rung and left a message for the 15.2 grey >>>>>>>>>

Owner has just returned call and we are going to look tommorow evening after riding the coloured, sounds lovely, possibly may not have to consider what to offer for coloured after all!

MM tries hard not to get hopes up

see the lovely grey >>> is askiung for 3.5K

and thats way more established as a horse than the one you describe so id say approx 2K for the coloured!

I do like that grey tho! but then again not seen the ocloured....

Thanks Wildwest

Hemangerman and LN, I was thinking 2 - 2.5K but then started worrying that I was being stingy. Seems like horses are a bit like buses., you dont see anything remotely interesting then all of a sudden.....
