I've got a really, really smart 16.2hh 7yo Polish Warmblood mare who until she was imported to the UK last autumn was used as a broodmare in Poland. She's by the Contender stallion Castor (also a Grand Prix SJ'r) out of a Kerman mare (Kerman was the main Polish Warmblood foundation SJ/Eventing stallion). She was broken last autumn and has beautiful, light flowing paces and a very scopey jump. In the next few weeks I will start taking her out to Prelim dressage and a bit of unaffiliated SJ. Now the big BUT!! She's not going to pass a vet because she's a bit stringhalty picking up one hind leg. There's absolutely no sign of any trouble when ridden or jumped and no indications of stringhalt when she's walks out having been stood in. Bearing in mind that she's a proven broodmare with excellent breeding should I sell her for breeding or should I sell her as a riding horse? - I'm certain that she will go far in any sphere and if I had the time to produce her then I wouldn't be contemplating selling her because she is a lovely ride. I don't want to overprice her with the state of the current market but I don't want to give her away for peanuts because of her 'sticky leg problem'

Sell her as a ridden horse/potential brood mare. In the ad just explain she has proven herself as a brood mare but is now an excellent ridden horse, however, she is showing slight signs of string halt. Many buyers will look past that (I know the string halt wouldn't overly concern me) and not concern themselves with vetting either. It would be a real shame if she had to stay a brood mare just becasue of her string halt

Well, what you would price her as if you were selling her as a broodmare?? I think that needs to be your base price regardless of whether you're selling her to ride or to be put in foal.

I haven't got a clue! I've never sold a broodmare - how do you value them?

You're not going to be able to sell her as a dressage horse with stringhalt - so don't focus on her paces if you're selling her as a riding horse (unless you're going for the non-affiliated market).
