Im moving my yearling Boots to a new field in a few weeks and want to worm her. We're not sure when she was last wormed (we've only had her 6 weeks) as the pervious owner didnt say so we dont know what she was wormed with either. What the best thing for me to do?

I dont want to sign up to a worming program now as the field we are moving to has its own worming program but we have agreed with the YO that we will get her wormed before we move her, she dosnt look wormy but just in case.

Any advice on which wormer?

Thanks for the reply. But I just want a wormer that i can buy from courtry wide for now. I will be going on to the same worming program as the yard i am moving to so dont want to get involved in anything else yet. Once i have moved I am planning on using the Intellengent Worming Program but dont have enought time to get that all done and worm Boots before we are due to move. So just want to know which wormer i should use for this time of year and that will be ok for a yearling which i can buy from country wide?

If you don't know her worming history I'd be tempted to treat her with a broad spectrum wormer such as Equest pramox that does all the worms including encysted redworm, alternatively the 5 day panacur guard. But if in doubt speak to your vet.

I'd speak with the Vet- everyone has such different ideas on worming, and with a youngster it's important that it's right!

Mine are tapewormed twice a year in the spring and Autumn, so when they are due in Sept the older 2 will have an all in one wormer like Equimax/ or an Equitape- but my yearling will have a double dose of Strongid P as my vet once advised me that youngsters are more prone to Tapeworm and the all in ones don't seem to work as well on the younger horses.

A lot of yards will insist that you worm upon arrival and keep in as well.

I asked as i had thought about the 5 day panacur guard as we dont know her history but wasnt sure.

Having vet out tomorrow for our other horse so will ask them then, thanks anyway.

I hate worming, its like a flipping mine field!
