What should my horse weigh?

I know it's a bit like how long is a piece of string. Rough guide for medium build 15.1 or even a range from very fine TB to Heavyweight cob. Be helpful to have a bench mark for all sizes a bit like BMI in humans. Does such a thing exist in horses?

BMI in humans doesn't work tho!

Best off looking at condition scoring.

As a help.... My 15.3 TB 20yo mare in full work, is about 460kg on a weigh tape. Condition score of 3

Thanks Dianchi, that's true my BMI says I am overweight. Don't feel it! Well maybe just a bit! That does help, last weigh bridge my horse was 503 and he had been on restricted grazing for a while before that. Think he is more now. Weight tapes are rubbish!

Weigh tapes aren't rubbish and are ideal for when you are watching weight gains and losses.

But for true weight you need a weigh bridge

You are right they will show variation of course but my horse was 50kgs lighter than the tape suggested when weighed on the weighbridge!
