I bought a fylde Samantha last year for my tall daughter and her 14.2 show hunter pony but this year my daughters knees go right in front of the saddle, not ideal considering her pony is quite green! So are now looking for an alternative to suit her longs legs, anyone got any ideas? Thanks Hectorandbella

I have an Oakfield Sanatana WH saddle and I am really pleased with it. I don't show but do endurance on my 14.3 LW cob and there is plenty of room for my knees even when stirrups are up a bit for fast work. It was great value. I bought it barely used on Ebay for £300.

I fit a lot of show saddles and I find you have really only a couple of choices - your main one is to go very slightly more forward cut, a WH saddle can be a very good option but you need to find something obviously not too forwards cut, ours are pretty straight but they can vary. A longer flap helps of course, but only if you then rider longer :)

The other option is to have a saddle with a larger seat or if the pony can't take it then you can extend the cantle to make the seat larger without affecting the fit on the pony, this isn't really possible on an existing saddle but you can order saddles made this way. I don't find a larger seat is always the best option anyway, you are more likely to have to go a little more forwards cut.
