Hello,

Well, I have no idea about what class for showing for this boy or what to wear (have never been 'properly' been into showing. (I have done a little research and saw not to wear black, so when is the need to wear black jackets as I know there are some out there you can buy, just wondered!)

Not that we would be going to any shows in the very very near future (but maybe this year!)I wondered, what classes would this boy do? He is a hackney (of the supreme champion hurstwood romeo may I add!) x welsh cob. 15hh. 6 years old, but green as was mis treated and didnt start being broken in etc till 3 / 4 yrs

So what classes would he be, for in hand and for ridden?
What tack for in hand and what tack for the ridden class?
What do I wear?

While its here, how does he look, his conformation (etc?)

Many thanks in advance (he has a slight belly in side on view due to lack of work) xx

Coloured classes!!

Tweed jacket, Navy hat, black boots and cream/beige jods. He is very nicely marked, but is a bit on the podgy side at the mo.

Would need a plain workmanlike brown bridle and saddle, and a snaffle would be fine whilst doing novice classes.

Oh yes, I know he is a little on the podgy side at the mo, unable to get him out lots at the mo, the top picture he was out nearly every day. Are there any other classe we can do? Someone was telling me there are age limits for working hunter? I'm 23. And what bit would it be otherwise?

He could no novice workers, often local shows have novice classes, also being 15hh he could do small hunters. You also have a few years of Intermediates as well for BSPS classes. Hes a lovely looking boy.

Lovely boy!

You could do 15hh workers, intermediate workers, ISHT, 153cm shp...

Quite a few possibilities, as well as the obvious coloured classes!!!

I had this conversation with someone else recently, is there generally an age limit for riders with the whp? 15hh workers would be classed as whp as the working hunters start at 15.2hh, so he is too small for that and can only go in the pony one?

I think he looks very smart, nicely marked, should do well in coloured classes. Needs to gain muscle/top line though, looks quite young.
Coloured classes would be fine, also WH, show hunter, lightweight hunter locally. You might also be able to do young horse classes locally (I think they go up to 6yrs).
Potentially CHAPs and BSPA stuff also - Check their websites.

Thank you

yes well he is 6 at the mo, he was in work 5 - 6 days a week so was looking stunning but the owner had an accident so cannot ride / lunge and I am not local to stables and at uni so cant go up anymore than I do

but I knew he needed to build up his muscle he looks stunning when fit!

Hi,
I'd do coloured classes and workers with him. As you're 23, you will be ok to do the Intermediates, which go up to 15.2.
As he's Welsh xHackney, I suspect he could have a high knee action, therefore it'd be doubtful if you would have any success in ridden hunter classes.

As far as your attire goes, nice tweed jacket, simple plain tack, preferably brown!

OH i didnt think of that, thats agood point about the ridden hunter one. Yes his dad is a supreme hackney champion (think I mentioned that lol) Thanks that is a good point

Affillated yes...the upper age limit for 15hh whp is 21. For intermediates (which he could do) is 25. Intermediate is 14.2hh-15.22hh

But unaffilliated, i dont think it matters, unless it says in the schedual of course!

looks lovely in the top pic, definitely give the coloured classes a go, and maybe WH and as others have said, intermediates. Admittedly I don't know much about showing, I'm in the same position as you, but they're the ones I've been told to go for. Also, at local level things tend to be far more relaxed, so you can have a go at whatever you fancy really and see what he seems to do best

Nice little horse, I don't think he's podgy, not for showing but dont let people talk you into putting more weight on.

You could do lightweight cob but would have to pull his tail and hog his mane. That's not to say you couldn't do some classes just that the judge would mention it, you could use that as a chance to ask their opinion tho
