What size bit?

My pony is in a 4.5” eggbutt snaffle. I’ve been advised to try him in the same comfort snaffle but a hanging cheek version. He constantly draws his tongue back but never puts it over the bit. Should I get the sane size, 4.5”, in a hanging cheek or should this style be bigger / smaller?

Does the current 4.5" bit fit as it should (1 finger's width either side)? If so I'd go for the same width, the hanging cheeks shouldn't make much difference to the width required.
It might be worth seeing if you can try one from a bit library if you are worried about the fit though.

Yes the 4,5” fits as it should. I have been loaned a 4.75” hanging cheek same mouthpiece & was told they need to be next size up but it looked too big to me.
