I'm 19, male, and 12 stone, 5ft7. I'm looking to get into riding. I've always had a love for horses. I just want to know what the perfect size horse would be. I'd be hacking and general riding.

Any help Id really appreciate :) thankyou

Size isn't as important as temperament - but that said you're going to look a little odd on a tiny pony! At 12 stone you are on the edge of what many riding schools will allow (daft - but there you are...) so a good place to start would be to find somewhere that can offer you lessons on a variety of horses so you can get to feel what the difference in action is.

For your height & weight you would probably fit reasonably both on something taller and thinner and on something more middle range and broader. A horse which is more narrow across the back might be more comfortable to sit (or in fact you might find the opposite - gents have distinct personal preferences for that!) A longer legged horse usually has a longer and more flowing gait - but that can be a bit fast for a beginner. A broader backed shorter limbed horse might have a more choppy trot making it a bit difficult to learn to sit to. The only way to know is to get up on a range of horses and see what suits your personal preference, how flexible your hips are and what is most comfortable for you width wise. Assuming you don't have the finances to go and buy a load just to find out a riding school is the best first option!
