I am currently downsizing horses!! I currently ride a 16.2hh middle to heavyweight!! (he was a bit of a project) but am now going for somthing more smaller and managable
I am 5'3", size 8 and about 120lbs
so i want to get it right, what size horse would you recomend to be the right size for me? would i be okay, as small as a 14.2 / 14.3 ?

I'm about the same size as you (probably a bit fatter!) and I feel very comfortable (kind of 'ideal state') on fairly light-middle weight 15hh - 15.2. I do ride a 14.2 sometimes but always feel a bit big - don't think I actually am, just the feeling. Depend if you fancy something heavier, then maybe 14.2 which feels bigger becuase it's a bit wider?

Good luck with the search!

With your height and weight I would say pretty much anything really. It also depends on the breed and what you want to be doing with the horse/pony?
As for 14.3 you would be totally acceptable on that size. I have a gypsy vanner at 14.3 and he has carried a variety of people, shapes and sizes no problem at all.
From people a bit shorter than me (I'm 5 ft8) to people a little taller than me also. Weight wise he has carried from around 8stone to me who is around 15stone at the moment.
So at 8 stone and 5ft3 you have plenty to choose from

Yes you'd be fine with a 14.2 if not smaller imo

that pony looks fine for 5ft3. Im 5 ft and still ride my 13.2hh new forest-see my sig below! I have not long got a 16hh (high withered) tb, also in sig-have not had chjance to ride him yet as pregnant so no idea how small i will look on him.lol!

Hiya that pony you posted looks fine for you in my opinion.
You should even be able to go down smaller than 14 hands as well though. Try a few out that you like the look of and see how comfortable you feel, though do bear in mind any pony/horse smaller than your current horse will make you feel like you are riding a midget at first lol.
But once you get used to it, you will be fine. Let us know how you get on and good luck
