Okay, so I'm 14, around 7 stone, and 5'1.

I recently sold my 14.3hh Pony, and I am now looking for a new one, what size horse will be best?
I am going to look at a 15.2hh Horse, will I look silly?

So, how tall are you? and what size Horse do you ride?

Not at all and to be honest I don't think it matters (unless you are 20 stone 6 foot on a 13.2!). Find the right horse for you and what feel comfortable with and don't be too dictated by size. Last year I wouldn't have viewed anything under 16hh. This year I tried a perfect 16.2 but realised I was now preferring smaller horses and bought a 15.2hh. I am 5"7 and also ride my 14.1hh welshie. It depends very much on how the horse rides as well.

No 'should' about it - if you like the 15.2, can ride it and feel comfortable then go for it! After all, WFP looks tall on anything he rides, and Swedish showjumper Malin Baryard-Johnsson looks tiny on everything - doesn't stop them being super successful :)

Good luck with your search!

I have a friend your height with a 12.2 Dartmoor pony, and equally another friend your size with a 16.3 warmblood - neither look silly.
Oh and FYI I'm 5'7 and my boy is 14hh on his tip toes!

Hello i would say you would look fine on a 15.2 however if you wanted a 14.2 you would look fine on that too! Im 5'8 and my horses are 15'2 and 16 hands. I would love to be your height and weight! Id have a nice 14.2 pony!! :)

How tall are your parents? You may have a couple more years of growing to do yet. Do you want a forever horse? At the moment you could probably ride anything from 13 - 16 hh. If you are not going to grow much more then I personally would say 15.2hh maximum.

I'm 5'2" and just downsized from a 15.1 to 13hh!! My new mares previous owner was 5'7" and looked great on her but bare in mind that she's super wide and really takes up the leg.

You'll look fine on a 15.2, go with what horse you like rather than looking for a specific height I say (unless it limits classes you want to do of course).

Whatever you feel most comfortable on. One of the girls at the yard has a 13hh spotted pony. She's about your weight, and a wee bit taller but 17 years old. She looks very slightly under-horsed but has her stirrups a considerable bit longer than some you see in the show ring. When she occasionally rides a 17.2, I make a joke about peas on elephants, but she looks perfectly fine on a 16hh that is a quite fine.

I am 5'7, weigh 10st and am ancient. I used to ride a 17hh horse and didn't look small because I have very long thighs (saddle fit is a pain). My friend's 15hh ISH looks too small for me, and I bump her elbows with my toes. But, I now ride a 15.1hh Connie - my 'overgrown pony', I call her, and actually, because she is wide, my toes don't come too close to her elbows at all!

However, at 14, you might find a 14 - 14.2hh pony would work for a while for you, especially if you would like to compete in the juniors. You would have a good couple of years together before moving onto something slightly bigger.

Ride whatever size you are comfortable on.

I'm 5'8" and ride a number of horses varying in height from 14.2 to 17.3

I'm 5'1" and my current share is 17hh. My previous share was 17.1hh. I DREAM of a nice 14.2hh cob, but I seem to keep ending up with the giants.

Thank you all so much for your replies, It has boosted my confidence in riding a bigger horse and not look silly, as I thought I would.
Reading your replies has defiantly made me more confident for when I go and see this Horse, knowing now I wont look silly.

Thanks again.
